First days of pre-school...I have to share this with you
So Michael will start pre-school full time on Monday. Because he is so little and bc he was taken care of my mom and my SIL, I asked the director if I can slowly transition him to the center by bringing him in for an hour here and there so that he can familiarize himself with the place, the kids and the teachers.
We started on Wednesday. He was happy when we went in, started to play right away, sat through circle time, and then I slowly sneaked out outside just to see his reaction. I was peaking through the window to see what he would do...he was fine until he realized that I was gone. He panicked, started to cry and just got so scared...the director picked him up, calmed him down and he stopped to cry. I went in after 5 minutes and he was so happy to see me. I took him to the park with his group, he got to play with his new group and I got to talk to the teachers.
Yesterday I brought him in again, he was happy to go in, I left right away. When I came back an hour later, the teachers told me that he was fine, playing with other kids and just doing his thing...no crying whatsoever. Again, I took him to the park with his group, and he got to spend time with them.
This morning I took him in again, he was happy to go in, went in, and I left right away and I came back 2 hours later. He was participating in group play (the school follows the Montessori philosophy of teaching) and when he saw me, he ran to me, gave me a hug and went right back to playing. The teachers were telling me what a happy and content boy he is and how he will thrive there.
Monday he goes in full time. I have to say that I am pretty confident that I found a good place for him. A nice, clean and modern center that follows the style of teaching that I wanted him to be exposed to, with nice and warm teachers and sweet kids. I thanked the director for allowing me to come in and spend time there. They loved having me there, I got to see how they work and meet the kids. I feel a lot more comfortable leaving him there now.
Thank you for letting me share.
