First Dental Visit - Age
When did you first bring DC to the dentist? I'm hearing everything from 1 year to 3 years. I'm in open enrollment at work and need to decide whether to get benefits for DS, who will be almost 2 by the end of 2015 (I say it that way bc I need to consider the whole year and whether he'll need to go at any pt)

Re: First Dental Visit - Age
i added dd onto my plan when she turned 1. i do not plan on taking her until she is 3 or so (she is currently 20 months). but adding my kids was so inexpensive (another $9 or so per month) i would rather be safe. my cousin fell at the playground and cracked his front tooth...that could happen to dd at any time. for me, the extra few dollars is worth the peace of mind

Re: First Dental Visit - Age
We just went at 32 months. DS did pretty well. We did prep him by "practicing" and a social story I read every night for a week ( DS is Autistic).

First Dental Visit - Age
DD chipped two teeth slightly at 16 months. I wasn't even sure if she was covered yet but thankfully she had been added to our plan so we were able to take her. I would say him just in case of an emergency if it's not too expensive. We took her for a cleaning around 18 months and will probably take her back somewhere between 2.5 and 3 for her next check up.

DS1 - 3 DS2 - 2
Only took DS2 earlier bc I just made their appts together and thought they'd get a kick out of watching each other get a checkup. Worked and they were both great.

First Dental Visit - Age
He just had his first visit this week and he's 4. He's been on our plan since he was a little over 3. I waited to take him bc I knew it would be easier for him to understand right now. He did so well and I was so proud of him. I took him to my dentist, not a pediatric dentist.

Re: First Dental Visit - Age
3 for my older. I did get insurance earlier in case he broke a tooth.
DD went at 2, because she was there.
Our dental visits were really smooth & 3 is probably the perfect age because DS liked all the kiddie things the dentist was doing.

First Dental Visit - Age
Just over 3.
Also FYI, on some medical insurance plans dental is covered for children so you may not need another separate policy.

Re: First Dental Visit - Age
Pediatric dentistry recommends at age 1 or 6 months after the first tooth. I have taken my kids since they were 1 and I am glad (they are 3 & 6). First few visits were torture. Now they just wave at me and walk in.
Also, we found out very early on my son is an open mouth sleeper.....prone to cavities. He had one filled at 2 but has been fine since.
They go every six months and it's gotten them into good oral hygiene.

Re: First Dental Visit - Age
I was told 3, took him at 4 because I was bs'ing. His teeth are perfect. As far as dental insurance I would make sure they are covered atleast by the time they have their first tooth. My niece had to go to the dentist at 18 months becuase she fell.
