Am I a moron here or isn't he saying that although he prefers a shelter pup that many/most of them are mutts and not purebred hypoallergenic which is what they need for his daughter? What is wrong with this statement?

I think this was def taken out of context and is not a racial issue in the slightest...unless of course as stated above I AM in fact a moron!

You are NOT a moron. I understood this exactly the same way. And while I fully support adopting shelter pets, I certainly don't blame him for putting the health of his daughter first.

totally agree!

IMO, the title of this thread is inappropriate, inaccurate and totally unnecessary.

OMG thank you on SO many levels!!!

The OP should be ashamed of herself. If you are going to quote someone, quote them accurately. The inflammatory nature of the title of this post is the exact reason that it is difficult to have honest political discourse. People insist on spreading lies and misquotes and not dealing in facts and truths.

I said this in the first page......

She is quoting the article that she referenced. It is up to everyone here to actually read the article and read that the sentence is part quote, part editorial.

Is it misleading, yes. Wrong, not since she quoted the article.

ETA I do agree that the title of the post is incorrect in its quotes.

I was just thinking this! Chat Icon

Shanti - FTR I agree with where you're coming from. I do think the title of the post was misleading, but I think it was supposed to be eye grabbing.

See mine and BJ's convo a few pages back!...

I actually Laughed out Loud when he said that. I didn't see that as being bad. When I tell people I am Irish Italian German and English they say oh your a mutt and I laugh and agree Chat Icon I don't see it as that bad.

I also love that his preference is a shelter dog but might not be able to do it because of his daughters allergies.

The title of the post DOES NOT apply that. It is worded completly different then what he said Chat Icon

I don't care at all - in fact I seriously couldn't care less - about him calling himself and mutt and what it means. However I find it hard to believe that the President elect wouldn't somehow be able to get a non-mixed breed shelter dog. Yes, maybe they are hard to come by but he's the Pres. elect - certainly that gives him some clout with practically every shelter in the country, no?

On to practical matters. I'm sure that EVERY shelter in the US with a purebred puippy will be happy to share with the Obama family. If he doesn't get a shelter dog I will be highly disappointed. As Prez elect, he has nearly infinte resources. I'm sure he can find a purebred shelter dog somewhere.

Actually I like that he was so upfront with his statement. I am looking forward to seeing what type of dog they get.

I agree.
I also assume they are being inundated with emails, calls about dogs for adoption in shelters.

I hope he does get a dog from a shelter, but quite honestly... I think it's sad that this is making headlines all over the place and causing such controversy. We have bigger issues going on right now that we need to address and the President needs to address than what kind of dog to get.
