"First" home buyers - a question

If you do plan on buying another house in a few years, do you ever drive around your neighborhood looking for your 'next' house? Chat Icon

We want to stay in our neighborhood but get a bigger house with a bigger yard (MUCH bigger yard) in about 5-10 years.

I started driving around my neighborhood for inspiration on what we could do to renovate our house.

And then I found it. Our next house. Check this out:

Google satellite map of plot - corner of 7th Street between 3rd and 4th Avenues

Look at that plot!!!!!!

It has the whole end of the block... It's an adorable classy looking victorian with big windows, shutters, and it's GREEN.

I'm in love. My husband laughed at me, but admitted he loved the house too. Would it be stalker-ish for me to tell the homeowners that if they ever sell, to call me first? Chat Icon

Am I crazy? Do people do this? I love my house but man... You gotta dream, right?

I'm sure some people do knock on peoples doors and make offers on houses that aren't for sale....I won't have the guts to do it though Chat Icon But it's always good to dream! Chat Icon

Re: "First" home buyers - a question

My ILs get knocks on their door all the time from people offering to buy their house, and it isn't on the market. DH and I are considering this next if we can't find anything!

Your taste may change a little in 5-10 years though. But it doesn't hurt to dream, right?

My mom's friend had people who did that. A couple of year's later she wanyed to sell, called them, and they worked out a deal. Go for it.

Re: "First" home buyers - a question

We think about whether or not we will buy another house or add on to the one we have now. We figure we'll give it about 5 years and then evaluate the situation.

we think about it -- i already know what i want in my next house that i don't have now - FDR and an entry foyer. we go to open houses sometimes just for fun. but we've also talked about refliancing down the road to expand.

Re: "First" home buyers - a question

I don't think it would be stalkerish at all! About a month after we moved into our house a woman stopped by and said that she had tried to buy our house but we had bid higher, she said if we ever wanted to sell to give her a call first. I put her number in a file, just in case - you never know it could work out Chat Icon

I did this like crazy. I don't know if it was to be sure I made the right choice, in combination with wanting ideas for the future.

Then we visited many other towns and realized we prefer to be elsewhere. So now we drive around other neighborhoods looking for our next home, since we decided we are def moving.
