First night of CIO: Update!
I feel like a horrible mommy but I did it. I turned the fan on in our bathroom to help drown out the shrieks.
It was almost comical- because she has a VERY distinctive, "I am VERRRRY mad" cry. It's not even a cry- more like a screech that reaches dolphin pitch. And she was very mad last night.
During her second shriekfest, I watched the clock and said, "At 5 I will go in" she fell asleep at 4:45- and is waking up as we speak.
Hopefully she won't be too plssed at me. Today we will officially start the Healthy Child schedule (which actually is already pretty close to what the book recommends).
Fingers crossed that tonight life will be easier.
UPDATE: I think it works. We followed the *schedule* of no more than 2.5 hours awake at a time all day yesterday. She had some difficulties with going down for her naps (whined for 15 minutes each), but otherwise was fine.
I put her down at 7pm. DD woke up at 11:30- I went in to nurse. Then, when I went back to my room, I again turned the bathroom fan on. The fan will drown out whining cries, but if she gets REALLY upset, I can hear her.
I didn't wake up to any screaming until 7!
Now- if I could find the strength to follow the book and NOT go in at 11:30....

It is hard, but it works. I am sure she will not hold a grudge today.

Re: First night of CIO: Update!
She woke and ate at 11:30pm. If I can get her to eat well at her 6:30pm feeding tonight, I'm going to *try* not going in when she wakes up the first time (usually between 10:30-11:30).

Re: First night of CIO: Update!
Was she sleeping in her crib before you tried this? My DD still sleeps with me and I've attempted to have her CIO in her crib, but couldn't follow through.

She's been in her crib since she was 7 weeks old.

Re: First night of CIO: Update!
I'm telling you, once you pay attention to that "wakefullness" period during the day and get her down for her naps consitently, the nighttime becomes a lot easier. I'm a firm believer in a schedule/routine. Once you establish that, things seem to fall into place.
