first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
Well, I found out last weekend that I'm pregnant. A bit surprised, but not shocked. Some of you may remember my story, I delivered twins this past August and one unfortunately passed away Anyway, we have been moving on, trying to give our surviving baby everything he deserves. We made the decision to try for a second baby, only for him. Since I'm 37, I knew that if I wanted this to happen, and hopefully happen naturally on its own, we would have to start trying now. Well, it happened.
Anyway, since my cycles are so darn long, I have no idea how far along I am. My LMP was Jan 21, so if I had a perfect cycle, I would be 6 weeks, 2 days. Since my cycles are around 38-40 days though, I guess I'm barely 5 weeks. When I called the dr, they gave me an appt for 3/25, which is almost 3 weeks away. I don't know how I feel about that. Part of me feels it's probably better I go later, because what would they do for me now anyway, it's too early? The other part of me feels it's not confirmed I'm pregnant (despite 4 HPTs!!) until I go. Originally, she was going to give me 3/18, which seemed so much closer, but there were no night appts. Do you think I should call back and ask if anything opened up or if they can fit me in a week earlier or leave as is? The other thing is that I cannot have sonos in the office due to how my insurance is set-up, so I will end up having to go make an appt somewhere else for that after seeing the dr, which will add on more time unless I get an appt quickly. My calculations will make me either 7 or 8 weeks if I keep the 3/25 appt.
I guess I'm also anxious because I'm wondering if this is "dangerous" that I got pregnant so soon after delivering??
What should I do? Any thoughts on when a typical 1st visit should be? Last time was different because I went to a specialist and was being monitored from 5 weeks, so this is new. My pg prior to that, I m/c, and I don't remember how far along I was at my first visit.
Thanks and sorry so long!!!

Re: first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
After I had a MC at 24 weeks, I got pregnant within a few months also. THe dr didn't think that was a problem. You can always try calling up your dr and trying for an earlier appt. Good Luck!

Re: first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
Congratulations! Wishing you a very happy and healthy 9 months.
I think you should do whatever makes you most comfortable. I was very lucky and got pregnant right after I went off the pill. At my first sono, I was 8 weeks based on my LMP, but the baby was actually measuring 7 weeks. I was pretty sure I had ovulated about 1 week late, but it still made me nervous to hear that I was measuring a week behind. Everything ended up being fine, but I was a little worried for several weeks. Just be prepared that you may be measuring differently than you had thought. Good luck with your appointment.

Re: first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
It's not uncommon for the first visit to be at 8 weeks or later. I had my first visit at 10 weeks. I wasn't even 4 weeks when I found out so it was a long wait & having had a m/c only a few months earlier didn't make it any easier. If you are really concerned & think that you should be seen sooner, call back & explain. Maybe they can sqeeze you in sooner & if not hopefully they can at least put your mind at ease that you'll be okay waiting until 7 or 8 weeks.
Congrats!

Re: first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
It's not that soon afterwards at all. I'm sure everything will be fine. I actually know two people that got pregant after the "go ahead" at 6 weeks. Think about "Irish Twins" - there are more out there than you might know.
I was nervous because I got pregnant nursing and my 2nd and 3rd will be 17 months apart but everything is going well, thank goodness.
I understand your being nervous completely but I am sure that everything is fine just take your vitamins and rest when you can.

Re: first prenatal visit - not sure what to do
Thanks everyone! I decided to keep my appt as is; I told myself that going earlier was not going to change the outcome. It's going to be a loooooong wait, but hopefully it will go faster than I think it will. Thanks again for your replies.
