First shots Today...
And Im a nervous Mom.
I decided to go ahead and let him get whatever the ped reccomends....but Im so scared.
For the most part was everyones experience ok afterwards?
Do they get sleepy, cranky, feverish etc? Or is that just the rare case?
Im so dreading this.

Re: First shots Today...
Can't offer any firsthand advice yet, but I know my nieces were very tired afterwards & she gave them a bit of Tylenol.

Re: First shots Today...
My kids were sleepy after, but neither one was feverish or anything. The worst side effects they had from shots would be a hard lump at the injection site and a little cranky and tired all day.
I know a lot of people give a dose of tylenol before hand, but my ped asked me not to do that, so that if they did have a reaction we would be aware of it.
Good luck, it's definately harder on the mommies than the babies.

Re: First shots Today...
My dd had two rounds of shots so far (at 2 and 4 months) and she has had no adverse reactions.....teething is a different story
She had no fever, did not sleep more than usual and ate like she always does, she cried for less than a minute, good luck

Re: First shots Today...
I cried the first set of shots with Aly. Honestly, it lasts for a few seconds...that's it. Bring a bottle or paci to soothe afterwards if he won't calm down.
Alyson had NO reaction besides a little crankiness and I think she was tired. That's it...nothing unbearable and she's still like that!

Re: First shots Today...
when my DS got his (3) shots, he did cry. but i gave him my attention throughout the shots. that seem to have calm his cries down a bit. his fever showed up some hours later. the next day it was gone. make sure you have children's tylenol ready. it should be half the dosage but confirm w your doctor.

Re: First shots Today...
DD first shots (3 shots and a liquid) were not bad at all. SHe barely cried and slept for 2 days!!!
The 4 month and 6 month shots she was more cranky, but again very little crying.
He will be ok.
eta: she ran a very low fever and had "cold" symptoms for a few days after. Runny nose and a little congestion.

Re: First shots Today...
Oh Donna - this is soooo much more stressful on the mommies then it is on the babies
I cried on the way to Ali's first appt
Ali was cranky afterwards - we just gave her some tylenol after. She had a VERY slight fever for 2 days after you might be able to give him some before - but just call the ped office and ask

Re: First shots Today...
Lily had her's last week and I was scared also! It wasn't all that bad though - she had a slight fever and was a little cranky, butwho wouldn't be with a bunch of shots all at once?!
What I found helped (or at least I think it did) was to smile at her a TON - she tends to smile when I smile at her, and it kept her in a positive mood during the day afterwards. I think kids react to your mood - so if you're scared and sad, they will be too. So I tried to stay as positive as possible.

Re: First shots Today...
Honestly, neither of my girls had *any* reactions to any of their shots--not tired, nothing. Only screamed for a minute during the shot and that's it; we've been really lucky.

Re: First shots Today...
DS has had about 3 rounds of shots. No reactions at all. Our ped. lets us give him Tylenol right there before they give him the shot.
Sometimes his leg will be a bit red, but, when you get home, put an ice pack or cool washcloth and DC should be ok.
Good Luck!

DD just had her shots this morning- she's in her crib sleeping. Pediatrician said she might get a fever but she hasn't.

Re: First shots Today...
Ainsley screamed for 10-15 minutes - the longest of my life. She ran a fever (101 the day of the shots, 99 the day after) and was very cranky for the day.
She got over it. . . but I'm dreading the 4 month shots.
