First time getting DD her own seat on the plane...
We just booked flights to NY in sept and got DD her own seat for the first time. We are going to bring the cosco scenera car seat we have here since we keep that one at my moms in NY (but we used it to drive back from NY to FL last week so we have it here in FL).
Should we bring the carseat on the plane so she can sit in it or gate check it?
DD will be a little over 2. btw - I almost have a 2 year old?! I can't get over it, but that's a whole other post...

How cute!!!! :)
Do you think she will have the urge to get up more if she sits in the airplane seat without the car seat??
If you think she will stay put, then I would gatecheck it. if you don't think she will, then I would bring it onboard..

Re: First time getting DD her own seat on the plane...
We flew with DD (21 months) in June and we brought the Scenera on the plane for her to sit in. My thought process was since she knows when she is in the carseat she can't get out and she usually is so good in the car, it would make life easier for all of us. She did fine with it. Plus, we flew Jet Blue so it made it easier for her to see the TV screen

I would bring it on, it's safer (but you knew I'd say that lol) and prevents any damage from the airline. And most kids like being up high in the seat too.

Hmm... I don't know how she'll be with the freedom of her own seat! It is a night flight 8:45p so she will hopefully sleep most of the flight. Up until now she's been on our laps (this will be our 8th or 9th r/t flight with her) and falls asleep fine that way, she also sleeps great in the carseat.

Re: First time getting DD her own seat on the plane...
Up until this point we have always brought DD#1's car seat. We went to FL in May and she was a little over 3. I feel it keeps her more contained. She is an active little kid and it works for her. We put on a movie on the portable DVD player and she even slept some of the time.
Next time we go we may not bring it because she'll prob be over 4 and might be more comfortable in a reg seat.

I would bring the car seat. Its something she is familiar with and she knows when shes strapped in shes in and theres no getting out.
It has always worked out better for me when I brought their seat with me.

If you're going to bring it, I'd bring it on the plane with you.
I watched the airline crew gather all the items to put on the plane (through my window) and it was not pretty.
I'd want to make sure a car seat had the least amount of damage to it possible.

DS#2 needed to be contained...so we always did for him...DS#1 was much better.
