First time mom 3rd tri ladies ... reading books?
Anyone else in the 3rd tri and not read ANY books yet? I'm totally planning to just wing it and as it gets closer and I feel like I know less and less about what the hell I'm supposed to be doing, I feel like MAYBE I should be picking up a book in the next few weeks.
Anyone else do nothing as far as reading up on what to do with a newborn? I kept saying this whole pregnancy that I went for my masters in teaching and learned NOTHING useful until I was in the classroom and on the job. I feel like this will be similar and I'll just learn as I go...

First time mom 3rd tri ladies ... reading books?
I'm 38 weeks and I have yet to read one book about child raising or what to do after the baby is born. I thought about it but every child is different so I think I'm just hoping "mommy instinct" will kick in.

I have not read a single thing, but I am a couple weeks behind you. My mentality is that I really want to learn from my newborn and take my cues from him instead of having too many preconceived notions of what he "should" be doing. Of course I am going to educate myself, but I don't think it's one size fits all parenting like the books sometimes make it, so I kinda want it to be a learning process for all of us.

Re: First time mom 3rd tri ladies ... reading books?
I am having my third, but with my first, I didn't read anything. I am more of a learn on the job type of person than read about it. I am researching breastfeeding like crazy since this is the first one I plan on EBF, and pumping since I will be going back to work. The only thing I read about the first one was what to expect with the pregnancy, but I even took that with a grain of salt, every one is so different. I don't think there is a real good book to read, until you have the baby and are thrown into a situation that you don't know what to do.

I read books about being pregnant, breast feeding and labor but nothing on what to do when the baby comes...I think I'm just going to go with the flow. I don't think there is anything out there that will really prepare you enough.

IMO throw away the books. It will not help. Each baby is very different so they will just panic you when your baby doesn't do what the book says.
Instead trust your instinct. It really does come naturally. And that is coming from someone who never held a baby til my own and never changed a diaper.

Re: First time mom 3rd tri ladies ... reading books?
Nope. I don't plan on reading anything.
I have a licensing test to study for so right now that's taking priority. Plus, i've had a million and 1 developmental psych classes so if I read 1 more thing about the milestones/stages a baby goes through I might go crazy.

I felt the same way as you, and I'm a teacher also. I didn't read any books either and now my DD is almost 4 weeks old and I have certainly learned a lot in these few weeks. I don't think aNy books would have helped. Learning on the job has worked for me!
