First year bloodwork tomorrow - collecting urine (girls) question

I am bringing Victoria tomorrow for her bloodwork and I'm concerned about the "bag" to collect the urine in.

Is this going to hurt her when I take it off? Leave a rash? The needle alone will be hard enough to deal with, I'd like any tips if the strips stick down there.

TIA!

I never had to collect her urine. She only had her blood drawn at the lab.

Chat Icon Chat Icon YOu just reminded me I forgot to do this!!! She had her 1 year chk up on monday and the doc didnt even say anything.. Im such a dope.. I wonder if i can do next month when she goes for the second flu shot.. Im an idiot.

eta: i was told just put the baggie on one hour prior to appointment. I dont think it will hurt them.. kinda like a bandaid.. its large enough to go around the area so it wont touch an sensitive parts.

My DD needed to wear the bag when she had a UTI. She had it on 3 different times within a week. I thought it would irritate her sensitive area when it came off since it was so sticky, but it didn't. Honestly, you couldn't even tell she had it on afterwards-- no rash, dryness, irritation, etc. Of course everyone could react differently, but hope your DD is just as lucky with it Chat Icon

Same for Lucas at the new ped...the old one had given us the packet for the collection but we never did it.

Donna...it should be fine (although should is never solid enough). I would suggest having some aquaphor on hand to put on her skin when the adhesive is removed.

I need to call and check now, I was told to collect it and bring the bag with me to the appt. Wasn't sure how to close it though so it makes more sense to take it off while there

No problem. Good luck!

At least you can put it on at home. We had to do it in the ped's office (b/c of the UTI) and sit and wait for her to pee-- at that point, her fever was 105 and she was barely drinking anything, so she was miserable (understandably) and just wasn't peeing-- it took forever Chat Icon

Sounds just what I went through in February with my DD! It sucked, but she was fine & we have done the bag many time with NO problems!
