FIV-Cats
So, our new baby has FIV-he contracted it from his mommy... some of his borthers and sisters were able to revert, but he hasn't...
Anyway, I am so glad we were ab;e to give him a loving home... he is so special and I love him!! The woman at the center said so many families had refused to take him due to the FIV. Does anyone have experience/advice on this? It also sounds like he has some fluid in his nose when he breathes sometimes.. is this normal?
I am going try to make an appmnt to take him to the vet this week..
Any advice would be great! Thanks!
ETA: so he just threw up... is this normal?

Re: FIV-Cats
My sister's cat had that. He too had a gurgly nose and threw up more than the usual cat. I guess those are standard symptoms. He never had any other problems though!

Re: FIV-Cats
I had a wonderful cat that was a carrier of it. I believe it was 'dormant' in her and she never showed a sign that she was sick. She also had a litter of 4- I kept 2 of them and they both had it . They died young, maybe a year apart from each other and the symptoms came on rapidly. The mother cat lived for 10 years. We actually went away for 10 days, had a friend come by to feed her, etc. and when we returned she just wasn't herself and she passed 2 weeks later. Supposedly she got stressed out and whatever happened from there... Make sure that your cat is on a good diet. They are more prone to secondary infections so it's important to keep him as healthy as possible. Much happiness with your new pet
