Re: Float devices ( for pools)
We have arm floaties, he just wanted to swim on his own with them.
When we go away later this month, I am going to invest in a vest type flotation device

I'm not a big fan of the whole body suit ones, I feellike they just look uncomfortable. I just have are swimmies for DS. And then he has a regular lifejacket for boating.

Same here, I feel like they ride up on the kids They usually wear their swimmies or vests around the pool.

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
We used the arm floaties at the hotel pools we were in this past week and they just didn't hold her up enough to make her confident to let go for a long time.
I have the tube suit but haven't used it yet, and the puddle jumper vest for the public pools (since you can't use swimmies or anything else there). I know the tube suit will work great, since I used one with Nicholas. I would get one of those or the puddle jumper if you are going to public pools.

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
For our DC, we use the vest when they can't swim at all. DS is taking swimming lessons, so we use the inflatable arm floaties to make it more "natural", and to help him swim and not just rely on the vest. The floaties won't keep their head out of the water, it just helps them keep their chest/shoulders up a bit.

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
I never used floaties with my DD. I have heard from many swm instructors that it gives them a false sense of security in the water. Even in the camp she is in now they don't use anything like noodles or kickboards.
the downside is you have to be in the pool holding them every second, which I can understand gets tiring, but I just thought I would offer another perspective.

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
we used the full bathing suit with the floats in it until he could kind of swim, then the arm floaties. DS loved both at their own time

That's what I always thought, but at Saf-T-Swim they use them, so we use the ones that they use....

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
Our swim instructors have always told us not to use the floaties at all because the kids start to depend on them instead of learning to swim. They say its just better to hold them ourselves when in the pool.

Re: Float devices ( for pools)
We use these with both of our kids.. Damien now swims on his own.
I also bought a really small tube at Rite aid for Jaidy and she fits in it perfectly. She loves it. One of us is just always close by in case she decides to get out of it. So far she hasn't
