Floaties/vests/puddle jumpers for pool
We're going away next month. DS will be 10 months, DD will be 25 months. DS is on the larger side- about 20-21 lbs, and DD is tiny- about 21-22 lbs. Neither took swim lessons. What is the best thing to put them in the pool with?
My guess is DS will still be in the baby floats (like the ones with the canopies) but is there a weight limit? He's not too big for it, is he? DD, even though she is the same weight is too tall and I want her to try and pretend to swim. I hear great things about the puddle jumpers, but at only 22 lbs I'm nervous. Can I put her in anything where I DON'T need to hold her? (obviously i'd always be within arms reach).
ETA:Does anyone have any swim vests they could recommend for skinny toddlers? Most of what I am seeing says 30 lbs +. DD is only 23 lbs... Thanks!

Re: Floaties/vests/puddle jumpers for pool
They don't weigh enough for the puddle jumpers yet and they won't work properly. 2 summers ago my older daughter used them and they were great. She didnt need them this past summer and just for kicks we tried them on my youngest. She was 25 lbs at the time and they didnt work. They made her float on her back and she couldnt get upright on her own.
I would look at the packages of the floaties to see what the limits are.

I would look into a life vest for your older dc. Just keep in mind at that age they may just want to be held since they are nervous if they can't touch the bottom.
For your younger dc, the canopy float should work.

Re: Floaties/vests/puddle jumpers for pool
I'm bumping this, because I would love to know the answer. I have been thinking about this summer and our pool and I have not come up with and answer for the same reasons. At the moment my girls are 17m and under 20 lbs.

Re: Floaties/vests/puddle jumpers for pool
For DD we used both a swim vest and floaties. She too was about 22 lbs at the time. Then last summer (when she was 3 and 30 lbs) we used just the floaties or a puddle jumperSwim Vest Floaties LOVE the floaties becuase they are fabric on the outside, so much easier to get on and off!

last summer when DS was 9 months old we use the float with the canopy. he is only 22 lbs now, maybe 25lbs by the time summer is here and I still think he'll be too small for the vest my ILs bought last summer thinking he would wear it then. I saw the float in TRU the other day and i think it said maybe up to 27-30lbs because I remember thinking to myself at least DS will get another summer out of it!

I would look into a swim vest or a swim suit that has floats built into it. I love the puddle jumper but I think it is for an older child.

My twins will definitely still meet the requirements to use their floats again this summer. The problem is that, I don't think they will stay in them. They are so much more mobile. One of my girls was trying to pull herself out of it last year at 10 months old.

I was wondering the same thing about DS. I guess we'll try it once and see what happens!
