flooring in basement
what kind of flooring do you have in your basement?
We had to pull up the carpet after a flood and now there are these hideous tiles that are old and cracked and need to come up too. But we have no idea what to put down in its place.
Thought/Opinions??
ETA: The flooding issue was from a broken gutter over our basement windows. That has been repaired and no water in the basement since then.

Re: flooring in basement
We're going back and forth on this now. DH just pulled up the carpet in the finished half and it's just subflooring/concrete underneath. This part I'd like to have re-carpeted and just leave the other half that contains the boiler room and the laundry room as concrete.
ETA: Since you had a flooding issue, maybe use tile?

Re: flooring in basement
they might be asbestos tile so just be careful - if they are would not rip them up. You can encapsulate them with a sealer and then cover it with a different type of flooring. We have they same and plan to cover it with another vinyl flooring...

This is what DH wants to do. And then put some sort of Lenoleum (sp) over it. What do you do about tiles that are already cracked or missing? Can you just go right over everything?

Re: flooring in basement
I had posted the other day about a great flooring that looks like wood. It's vinyl and it's water proof and great for basements. It's called "Allure Traffic Master Resilient Flooring" They also have ones that look like tile. We have a high ranch and did it in our summer kitchen on the main floor, which is on concrete slab. We just layed it right over the concrete and came out amazing!
Here is the link to the other post. Wood-like flooring
Scroll down a bit and you'll see my post with pics too
Here's more about the Allure Flooring too: Allure Flooring

I think we are going to pitch the ones that are cracked and replace with a cheapo so it's all level and paint over the rest with some type of sealer. This way they won't be prone to cracking in the futre...

Re: flooring in basement
We'll have carpet in the living area and tile in the laundry room area. Prob straight concrete in the boiler room.

Re: flooring in basement
We mainly have some fake wood stuff. The bathroom and laundry area have tile. We also have a carpet remnant in the living area.
