have you looked into the therapists at Hofstra? AJ was accepted into their program, but we had almost 40 hours of other therapies, there would have been no way for me to be able to get him there 2x a week.

There aren't many but I do know of a few. My dd's home SEIT is, and she has been our "angel". She worked for many years in California, where Floortime is supported a lot more. She does use a lot of verbal behavior techniques (PRT) as well. She is through an agency so she has to have the data but we have designed the program so much like a DIR model.

I am not sure where you live, but feel free to FM me. I will give you as much information as I can.

Sometimes you have to also turn to psychologists, or speech pathologists and even OTs , because they may have gone through the training (there are quite a few levels). Long Island special educators, don't have much incentive to pay for the training as the jobs are all about ABA.

Floortime or DIR is a method of working with kids on the spectrum developed by Dr. Stanley Greenspan (his book The Child With Special Needs was HUGE in the field). It is a developmental model that focuses on play, occupational therapy, and developing a personal relationship between the child and the therapist. Its a lot of play, sensory stuff, etc. Its called floortime because it takes place on the floor mostly. The big school for DIR is The Rebecca School in Manhattan. Gil Tippy is the head there and he spoke to one of my grad classes about DIR. The OT at my school also used to work at Rebecca.

Most DIR people are anti-ABA and see it as too rigid and not child-centered, but some good people are combining the best aspects of both. :)
