floral park-nassau

Hi Everyone,

Sorry to bother you guys again but you have all been so helpful. I was talking to a friend today who suggested floral park nassau as an alternative to Rockville Centre and Bayside saying the trains go into Brooklyn directly. Anyone have any info on floral park nassau in terms of ammenities, school district as compared to my other two choices. I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much

Re: floral park-nassau

I personally don't think there's much comparison between floral park and rvc

For the most part the property lots are going to be much smaller

To me, it's much more congested

School's aren't as good (imo)

I've had lots of experience with both towns, but again, jmo

I would still go with RVC

Thanks so much for responding. I had no idea it was congested. Anyone else?

I grew up in flroal park and a lot of my family still lives there. It is a great town and has a lot of bars & restuarants. It has a great pool/park. I went to catholic school but the school district has come a long way. I would say the grammar schools are extremely good and the high school is ok. You won't get as much property as most of the town are 40x100 maybe 50x100 and the houses are not as big. The taxes and house prices will be lower as well. But the houses are a lot closer together.

That being said I just bought a house in RVC. FP wasn't even in the running for us. You can't beat the school district. It is #2 on long Island (Jericho is #1). We got a big house on a good size piece of property.

As far as the train goes the FP line is great and you can walk to it from most everywhere in town. RVC is also a great train line. You may not be able to walk from everywhere in town but there is alot of parking.

Being that all the locations you are considering have good train lines I don't think I would let that to be a #1 factor. The commute time will be about the same from each and honestly you may not always work in the same place forever.

Good Luck!

Re: floral park-nassau

In all honesty, you need to sit down and take a look at what you are looking for and what's on your MUST list in terms of where to live..

Right now, you are essentially all over the place in terms of where to look for a home and the places you listed IMO, are vastly different from each other.

I agree with bicosi -- It's definitely helpful to get input and opinions on different locations. But keep in mind that everyone has different definitions of what a "good" school district is and what "congested" is and what a "large" piece of property is. It's all so subjective!

Ultimately, I think the best thing for you to do is actually drive and walk around the areas you are considering to get a feel for them and the type of homes that are available. You also need to get a sense of what your budget can buy you in each location. I always tell my customers this, because the same house in different towns (or even in different neighborhoods within the same town) will have different values. And that can be true in pretty comparable areas. I work a lot in Merrick and Bellmore, for example, and a house in Merrick will always be slightly more expensive than the exact same house in Bellmore, even though the towns (school districts, demographics, etc.) are very similar.

I would ask your realtor why he/she is recommending Floral Park, and how he/she would compare/contrast it to RVC and Bayside. Maybe you realtor can take you on a "guided tour" of the areas you are considering and point out things like the train lines, parks, schools, shopping, and other amentities, and also give you an idea of the different neighborhoods within each town. Also, if the realtor hasn't done it already, I would ask him or her to send you listings of homes that would meet your criteria and fit your price point so you can compare what you can get in each area.

Good luck!

Thanks for responding. I think the number one thing for us is a good school district and number two is commute. I guess that would still mean Rockiville Centre. The reason why commute is so important is that I work long hours and need to be home to relieve a nanny if we have one in the evenings and would like to spend time with my daughter before she goes to bed at night.

Thanks for responding. Like I have said before our main concern is the school district and the commute. We would like 3 or more bedrooms but definately less of a concern is the lot size

I used to rent in Bayside (grew up in that area) and just moved to Floral Park area. I love it here. The village is wonderful, lots of shops and choices on hempstead turnpike. Short ride back to queens (20 minutes by car). LIRR to Penn Station is 33 minutes. LIRR also goes straight to Atlantic Term in Brooklyn.
Schools have a very good rep, as does the community.
That being said, RVC is known as one of the most saught after locations on LI. The school district is top notch, and the homes are beautiful. If you can afford to live in RVC id def check out the houses in your price range there first...then check out Floral Park and see what you get for the money. Compare that way.
I love Bayside as well, but could never afford the size home and lot that I was able to get in Floral Park in bayside. The schools in my opinion are also better in floral park. In bayside like a PP stated the elementary schools are great, but it is a crap shoot with the high school.
If you have any questions FM me.

Thanks so much for this response it has been really helpful!. I guess the only thing holding me back from RVC is the commute as compared to bayside and floral parkbut a few people have said the ride is not that much longer. Thanks so much to everyone who responded so far

Re: floral park-nassau

IMO Floral Park is a nice area and great schools. You also may want to look into Franklin Square. It's practically right next door to Floral Park and even better schools and easy commute to queens and nyc.

I have never lived in either of these towns, but I have lived extremely close to both. I actually think they are quite comparable. They both have good school districts, plenty of shopping and restaurants, a good nightlife (though I think RVC is a bit more college nightlife than Floral Park is), and easy train access to NYC.

They are both very nice places, it is more about how you feel. I am kind of a rvc person ( south Hempstead) so I will alwas be partial to there but I know people who live and work in floral park who are very happy.
Don't mean to confuse you more , but have you thought about garden city also?

Thanks for your reply. We have not really looked at garden cit. I dint know any of these areas well as you can probably tell by my posts lol. We are mainly looking at areas by word of mouth from friends and family and what would bean easy commute. We did think about port washingtonbut like RVC better
