Floral Park People
We are looking at a house that is zoned for J. Lewis Childs Elem. and Sewanhaka HS. If I mention to someone that the HS is Sewanhaka, I get this "look". Does anyone have kids in this school right now? How bad can a school be in this area?!

I am 99.9% sure that any home in the FP elementary school district goes to FP Memorial.
I graduated Sewanhaka in 1997 and then it wasn't bad. My sister graduated in 2008 and while it wasn't bad then either it definitely changed since I went there.
FP Memorial is part of the Sewanhaka High School district - maybe whoever gave you the information was mistaken that way.

To be honest, I think it is a good school. I also think that it might be a more diverse school than FP Memorial. SOME people equate diversity w. bad though that is not the case.

Really? I called the district and gave them the address of the house and this is the info they gave me. What town would go to Sewanhaka then?

Thank you. I went onto greatschools.org and it isn't rated as high as FP Memorial. Diverse is good in my book!

Yup. It's Floral Park 11001 according to MLS. Sewanhaka is the closest HS though. It's at the beginning of FP coming from Mineola, off Jericho Tpke.

this area is not bad by any means and the school is not bad either. fp residents have a choice of either floral park memorial or sewhanaka. our house is closest to sewhanaka too but our kids (when we have them) will go to floral park memorial simply because it's a better school.
the difference between the two is that sewhanaka also services parts of elmont and south floral park which are not as nice areas and are more diverse.

I went to John Lewis and Floral Parl memorial. I don't know anyone that didn't go on to FPM. The only people that went to Sewanaka were South Floral Park and Elmont. The people in South Floral Park went to a different elementary school. If you want to fm me the address I probably knew someone that lived around there.
