Flower Delivery at Work
Just had a discussion at work today with regard to when flowers are delievered at work. This whole conversation started a few months ago when an attorney at work received flowers. She was called to the front desk, then she ran back to her office to get money to tip the guy and then ran back front to sign for her flowers. My response was "You tip the delivery guy when he brings you flowers?" She looked at me like "Duh.....of course." Many times in past places I would be called to get my flowers AFTER the delivery guy left. Sometimes I would be out to lunch. Sometimes I'd be on the phone. Almost all of the times I never actually knew flowers were coming. I guess this is my reasoning for NOT tipping the delivery guy. It came up again today because DH sent me "I'm sorry flowers." After the above attorney came back from court she said did you tip the guy? And again I said "No." But now I feel bad whereas before I never gave it a second thought (ignorance is bliss?). So I guess my question to all of you who have put up with the ramble here, is....do you tip the flower delivery man when you're at work?

If I'm available when he comes - yes.
I do the same thing the atty did - tell him to hang on a second, ran back to my desk to get money and then tipped him...

Nope, I don't tip. The flowers get delivered to our mail room and the mailroom brings them to me... I don't tip the mailroom.

Re: Flower Delivery at Work
Any time I've gotten flowers at work, I've never been the one to accept the delivery, so it hasn't even come up for me.

Same here.
I do have to say, I don't think I would have thought to tip the guy if I DID accept them personally - I guess just because I didn't place the order or make the purchase, so I wouldn't have thought to tip.

I agree. Plus I RARELY have any cash at all on me and if the flowers were a surprise (as they usually are) I would say 95% of the time I'd have to tip the guys in pennies, lifesavers and rubber bands!

Honestly, I never have. But DH told me a long time ago not to tip them because he adds it to his bill.

Same here - I've never received them. Either our receptionist does or the mail guys.

Re: Flower Delivery at Work
Isn't tipping for the flowers akin to paying for your own gift? If someone spends $10 for "apology" flowers for you, and you tip the delivery guy $20, you just spent more for his apology than he did.....

OK, so the numbers were a bit exaggerated, but I was just making a point about paying for an apology that someone was sending you.....

Re: Flower Delivery at Work
Shouldn't the tip be included in the price of the flowers and delivery charge?
That's like getting a GC for a massage, and still having to tip.
Whatever, DH never sends me flowers, so I have never dealt with this conundrum.

Re: Flower Delivery at Work
Of course. I tip someone delivering Chinese food that just makes me fat why wouldnt I tip someone who delivers my flowers and makes me happy!
If it was a situation where I wasnt the one receiving the flowers then there is nothing I can do about that BUT if I am the one receiving for someone else then I have tipped for them.

Re: Flower Delivery at Work
I don't tip for flowers delivered, whomever sent them paid a bundle to send them, that should include it.

Maybe it's just me, but if I get a gift certificate for a massage or mani/pedi, or whatever, I of course still tip... They don't always include gratuity.
