Flu SHot- Category C
I'm so confused as to whether to get the flu shot or not... I looked it up, and it is FDA Pregnancy Category C. I've never had one before. DOes anyone else have concerns or should I just go ahead and get it because the FLU could be more dangerous?? Thanks for you opinions!!

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
Every doctor I talked to and book I read said to definately get it. I got it a few weeks ago...I would worry more about getting the actual flu.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
I got it last Mon. at my now weekly visits... It was strongly reccommended since getting the flu during pregnancy can be dangerous. I could have opted not to get it since I am due in only 3 weeks and barely get sick as it is.. but I decided what the heck I might as well get it so I don't get sick when the baby is so small as well. I haven't heard anything bad about it... and since it was highly reccommended I figured it would be safe. I did feel achy a day or 2 after...

Is it safe during all times of pregnancy? I'm only 7 weeks...
I'll have to remember to talk to my Dr. about it this week when I go.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
I didn't get it when I was pregnant with my other 2 kids... but my Dr. strongly recommended it so I got it last week...not only is could it be dangerous if I get the flu while pregnant but I just couldn't handle my other 2 kids on top of being sick, and my son is in Kindergarten so he tends to bring home all sorts of good germs

MY PCP told me to ask my OB, but she thought I should wait until the 2nd trimester, but that could be CYA too.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
I haven't gotten one yet, although the pediatrician recommended that both my husband and I get one. I forgot to ask the midwife about it today. Since I'm so close to being done, I'm thinking about just waiting until after is born. The pediatrician was worried about DH or me giving the flu to our newborn.

I agree. As someone who has had the flu during pregnancy, I am definitely getting one soon. It was miserable and filled me with guilt as well....you can't eat or drink anything as anything you manage to force down comes right back up.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
My OBGYN told me that I should get it and I am going to my regular dr. on Wed. to get it. I have never had it before, but I also read that you should get it if your pregnant.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
My Ob/GYNs office told me "to get the shot it is much worse to get the flu than to get the shot - and that they recommend it for all women who are pregnant or going to be pregnant during flu season no matter the gestation.
I would call your Ob/GYN and ask if you are concerned it is probably a routine question for their office at this time of the year.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
Hmmmm, interesting thread. I never had one and it is for that reason my OB office said don't because if I never had it being pregnant is not the time to experiment but I SO can't imagine getting the flu right now. That would be worse. Does anyone really have horrible reactions to the flu shot? I think I will ask again at my appt tomorrow. Especially because I am student teaching and exposed to A LOT of new germs.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
My OB suggested I get one. I haven't gotten it yet bc my primary doctor only gives the live virus, which my OB said I shouldn't take.

Re: Flu SHot- Category C
I just got mine last week in the hospital. It is EXTREMELY important for a pg woman to get it, if you get the flu it is very dangerous for you and the baby and from what the hospital told me too, the nurses, you would have to stay in the hospital hooked up to an IV- not fun!!! get the shot!!!!!!! my dr STRONGLY rec it too.

I have been told 2nd tri too, which puts me in the beginning of December.
