Food fight! Fresh or jellied cranberry sauce?
What's your preference?

Cranberry sauce wasn't part of my families dining tradition.
I've never tried the jellied stuff, made the fresh sauce a couple of years ago and have been making it ever since.

My mom is a great cook but she always makes homemade cranberries and they are just terrible!
It's the worst, I like the jellied but I can't eat it as it would insult her. So every year I have to just take some of the nasty cranberries and move them around my plate so it looks like I ate them.

Maybe this year say " Hey Mom, I know how you make cranberry sauce every year so when I saw this recipe I thought of you! I thought maybe you'd like to try something new this year" and hand her a cranberry-orange relish recipe ( the orange zest or juice is supposed to make it way better!

Seriously, that's what my mom did and as kids, we loved knocking it over and taking precise slices based on the ridges in the jelly from the metal can.
Ahh memories.
DH likes the fresh stuff.

we do both. I love my mom's fresh cranberry salad. She puts chopped apples, pineapple, mandarin oranges, banana, and nuts. It's like one big fruit salad and my favorite thing on the table. But there's a piece of my heart that belongs to that jellied crap

Me too. Is it sad that I take pride that I can get it out of the can without cutting into it? I like and have made home made cranberry sauce, but I really prefer the jellied sauce. It reminds me of being a child.

If it's made well and has enough sugar , fresh can be good but I usually find it too bitter.
What I like to do is take the jellied, mash it up, mix in some fresh cranberries and put some chopped walnuts on top. It's delicious! But I HAVE to mash it up...I hate seeing the ridges from the can
