Food in the fridge?
DH and I were having a discussion about what we should be keeping in the fridge. I know this sounds stange, but let me explain. A friend of ours came over and looked in our fridge. She commented to us and said "I keep our fridge fully stocked. Maybe I am shopping too much." She made this comment in a sorta snobby way and was implying that we don't keep much food in the house.
So, my question is, what do you keep in your fridge?

Re: Food in the fridge?
ok #1 thats just plain rude to look inside someone's fridge thats like looking in their medicine cabinets or closets! #2 if she looked in my fridge i would probably get the same snottiness and the reason isnt bc i dont food shop its that what am i gonna spend $400 i already spend close to $250!!!!!!! I have a lot of meats in the freezer and a lot of sides and snacks, cereals etc in the pantry but in the fridge i really only have some veggies, juices, milk, bread, eggs and condiments....it looks empty like i dont shop but we have more than enough to eat the 3 meals a day and snacks....HTH

Re: Food in the fridge?
You need to keep whatever in your fridge that YOU want. Just because your friend keeps her fridge "fully stocked" does not mean that you have to feel guilty about having less. What would be worse is if you started buying more food and then ended up throwing it out because you don't eat all those foods. Don't let her tell you what you should or shouldn't have in your fridge.

Re: Food in the fridge?
I think your friend is rude. It is your Frig and what you keep or don't keep in it is your business.
We are a family of 4 and we have a lot of company. We have two refrigerators and a big freezer. To be honest, we are packed to the max with everything from soup to nuts. However, although this works for us, it is not the norm for most people I know.
Do what is right for you and direct your friend to the local McDonalds.

What is her fridge stocked with?
We are only 2 people so there's really not too much I can keep fresh for an extended time. The only time I have a lot of food in my fridge is when I am loaded with leftovers or planning a party or I just went food shopping and didn't split things to put in the freezer.

ditto on all counts. i WONT keep alot in my fridge because i dont want anything to go to waste. maybe she keeps expired food in her fridge and considers that "fully stocked".

oh yeah and next time you go to her house make sure you open up her fridge and say "wow you have a lot of Crap in here!"

Re: Food in the fridge?
Wow, that was pretty nervy on your friends behalf.
And she would hate to look in my fridge. I have 1 pitcher of iced tea, poland spring water, some fresh produce, eggs, lactaid milk, and a few condiments. That's it... I'm not going to keep my fridge "stocked" so it winds up not only going bad and being thrown out but a waste of money also.
I cook almost every night of the week for DH and I. My meats are kept in the freezer and all else is stored in the pantry/cabinets.
I am certianly not starving us over here with a bare fridge.

Re: Food in the fridge?
Was she looking through your fridge because she was going to make you a meal That's really rude and pretty ballsy to do to someone We keep coke, mt. dew, coffee, milk, vanilla creamer, fresh fruit, oj, beer, saurkraut, brats, yogurt, frozen blackberries, frozen peaches, tons of frozen meals and cottage cheese at all time in the fridge. I grocery shop every other Sunday on my weekend off, but unless I am planning to make a meal I only buy what we will eat! I used to spen $200 every 2wks on groceries, and swear I would cook at home, but I never did and all the food gets thrown away. We only buy things that perish if we eat it a lot. These things are great for smoothies, snacks for work and so on. Oh yea I forgot cheese...lots and lots of cheese! We have lots of pasta and canned tomatoe's for quick yummy food, and of course stuff for lasagna and blah blah blah you get the point.....perishables not a lot, but more in the pantry! Sorry your friend was such a jerk

Re: Food in the fridge?
Firstly, your friend is rude for opening your fridge and making a comment.
Our fridge is not full either. We are two people and to buy $200 worth of groceries a week is a waste. We have milk, eggs, and some cold cuts in the fridge - along with some leftovers. Some fruit and veggie staples...that's really it. If I need something I can always run out and get it.

Re: Food in the fridge?
I shop maybe every 2-3 weeks..I'm not home a lot and eat out or take in the majority of the time especially recently.
It stocked when I food shop, but then it empties.
Hey, tell her to bite me. Tell her she can pay for your fully stocked fridge every week if she has an opinion.

Re: Food in the fridge?
Its so funny...I just took EVERYTHING out of our fridge yesterday to clean it, and throw old stuff out. I swear, 80% of what we have in there are condiments. So our fridge is full, but its all this stuff that lasts a long time, and isn't real food, just things to add to food. We have cold cuts and bread for lunches, sometimes eggs (but not always), and milk/o.j. With just two people, you don't buy that much, unless you really like to cook and entertain.

Re: Food in the fridge?
Unless she has 4 kids, how could she fill the fridge and not have it go bad before she could eat it all? Is it all hot dogs and processed cheese that doesn't expire? You can't keep fresh meats more than a day or two...

Re: Food in the fridge?
Give me her number, if she wants, she can stock my fridge as well. It's always kind of bare...and there are 4 of us!
I got tired of throwing food away all the time and stopped shopping for the week. Now I shop for a few days and the food gets eaten!

Re: Food in the fridge?
Brita pitcher ketchup, mustard, hot sauce Tofurkey slices for lunch rotting spinach shriveled oranges a box of cookie dough from god knows when - I'm sure before Cailen was born Some little cans of gingerale a friend gave me soy milk rice milk Cailen's bottles Random tupperwares of brownish stuff that someone forgot about and wont clean
thats it - have your friend peek her snobby little face into my fridge - I'll shove her in it and she'll be lost forever next to the container of gunk....

Re: Food in the fridge?
wow, thats pretty rude to say....
once i had a party and dh's grandmother came over, saw our fridge side door packed(salad dressings, condiments, olives pickles etc..., butter) and she saw that and our fridge (which by the way was only packed with the party food) and she told me it was packed and wait til we have kids what will we do then for room
in our main part of the fridge drinks consume the large top shelf, then cheese/hot dogs in the meat tray(all other meat in the freezer) and maybe a a bag of salad, yogurt, and dinner leftovers in the main section. Our Veggie bins are normally empty or have smirnoff

Re: Food in the fridge?
We dont keep a lot in our fridge either, we do it purposely so that when we get cravings to eat junk, there isin't any to eat. That way we don't blow up like baloons cause let me tell you, if it's there, i'll eat it! Plue we are getting married in 73 Days so I have to fit into my dress!
