Food Label Question - "May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts"
Would you give your DC who is under 2yo anything that has this on the label? I got oatmeal bars that I think DS will love, but I read the box and now I'm nervous to give it to him. I don't want to give him any nuts until he is 2, but many things nowadays have "May contain traces of nuts" or "Made in a factory that contains nuts". I don't know what is safe or not...

Re: Food Label Question - "May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts"
I did, but we don't have a history of food allergies in my family, and he didn't have problems with the other foods he had tried up until that point. If he had allergies, I may have been more cautious.
I've read mixed things about waiting until 2--I think may pediatricians now recommend children get exposed to different foods earlier. Part of the waiting until 2 for nut products may have something to do with the fact that they are so sticky and a younger child could gag on them.

Yes I do. We have history of allergies and I don't know what/if she's allergic to. I try it. If she has a reaction hopefully never then I will narrow it down.
I have not given her nuts yet.

Same here.
I still watch, and am cautious though. Ds hasnt had a pain nut, plain peanut butter, or even a peanut butter cookie, but other thing like you're describing he has.

Re: Food Label Question - "May contain traces of peanuts and tree nuts"
Ok thanks girls. I don't want to give him straight nuts or peanut butter or anything yet, but all these labels freak me out! I'm wondering if the food manufacturers are just trying to cover their butts by adding this to their labels. It seems like everything I pick up lately, has this printed on the box.

They definitely are covering their butts. But if someone has a severe enough allergy they need to know even if something was produced in the same factory.
I'll be honest, i dont even look at the labels.

Yes, exactly! I have nut allergies and items with these labels have yet to be an issue for me.
