Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
My feet began to swell at 26 weeks. It is really my left foot that seems to be swelling, which is the foot that I put most of my weight on when I stand. I teach and am on my feel all day. When I take a load off and elevate my feel, the swelling goes down, but it still looks a bit puffier than usual, which I am attributing also to my preggo weight gain. I also don't thing I do a very good job of staying away from salt- I try but I normally am a salt lover over sweet, so most of what I eat is on the savory side.
I think for me I have very bad judgement and never know when something is "normal" or when I should be concerned.
Is it abnormally early for my feet to show swelling after having been on them all day?

Now that the weather is getting warmer, I feel like it's starting for me now...I can drink a ton of water and I don't have to pee for a while, I think it's all being absorbed...I'm 24 wks.

I'm 23 weeks tomorrow, my ankles have been swelling for the past 2 weeks, the right more than the left. My doctor said it was normal, but earky for this to be happening. I hate it!

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
Mine starting at 29 weeks...so just thepast two weeks. it's been so bad. some days, it hurts to bend my toes and it feels like my skin is going to crack. my varicose veins are sooo bad, worse then ever... my veins feels warm to the touch. i am a teacher and i teach really needy, special ed. kids--- i can't sit down! elevating my fet doesn't realyl help. the only thing that helps is sleeping at night---when i wake up my feet are fine. an hour later, they're swollen. i had to buy old lady granny sandals with friggin' VELCRO straps at the Easy Spirit store in the outlets.... in a DOULBE WIDE!
i have a doctor's appointment tomorrow... perhaps he'll have some advice.

Make sure to drink a lot of water - at least 8 glasses a day - so hard for me to do too, but it will help. Don't add salt to anything. Try to take the few minutes between classes and sit with your feet elevated. If you think it looks swolen, bring it up to your obgyn.

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
i just noticed it yesterday in the heat at 29 weeks. I think maybe I didnt swell too much before this because I sit at a desk all day. Yesterday and today I have been really active and with the heat, the ankles and calves are looking more like tree trunks than part of my body!

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
My feet started at 22-24 weeks and still haven't stopped swelling. According to my dr some people just swell earlier. The best way to keep the swelling down is to drink lots of water and to keep your feet elevated as much as possible.

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
It's not abnormal at all - I'm 26+ weeks and my swelling started, intermittently, last week. It comes and it goes, though I've noticed it is MUCH better if I'm very concsious of drinking enough water

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
It started for me last night. I sat down and looked at my feel and ankles and they were pretty bad. I think it might have been the heat yesterday.
I tried to really drink a lot, I hope today they don't get bad again. But i see my OB today so I will bring it up.

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
I'm 22 weeks and my feet are already swollen.
We moved this weekend, and I've been on my feet all weekend long. I over-exerted myself, but the swelling was inevitable. I tried to stay hydrated, but this heat didnt help any with the swelling.
I tried on several pair of high heels this morning, and opted for flats instead.
I'm hoping once the temperature drops by the end of the week that some of the swelling will go down. I'm not ready for flats and capris just yet!

Re: Foot swelling- when did it start for you?
i just went to the doctor tonight and he said really, there is nothing you can do about it. drinking water and elevating your feet are fine, but in his opinion, if your feet swell, they are going to swell and not to worry about it. drinking water and elevating doesn't make it go away. it might alleviate some of the pain, if there is any, but they will still swell if you're prone to it.

Elevating your feet above your heart should make the swelling go down, but as soon as you're on your feet again, the swelling is likely to come back.
I started swelling at 29 weeks. I had to go up a shoe size b/c my sneakers didn't even fit. Eventually, the swelling moved all the way up my legs. My legs were bright red and hard. It got pretty painful towards the endl. The doctors couldn't believe how swollen I was. I tried drinking a lot of water, staying away from salty foods, keeping my feet elevated, etc. I had to get compression stockings, which helped contain the swelling and improved the circulation in my legs. I was eventually put on bed rest for high BP and severe swelling.
Some swelling is normal, especially in the warm weather, but definitely keep an eye on it and talk to your doctor about it.
