For all the high risk mommies to be..
So I was curious, I know I will be titled a "high risk" Does anyone know of a MD who works with a Midwife, that I could use. I know i will be making separate visits to my High risk OB and reg. OBGYN. I'm just curious if there are some suggestions. And what do you think, I would really like the holistic approach to my pregnancy when it does happen. Thanks

I know where I go (SB Univ Associates who work w/ SB Midwives), the midwives won't see me b/c I'm considered High Risk but I also know of some other patients that are able to see both the HROB and the midwives. I guess it depends on why you're HR.

I am high risk and only see a maternal fetal medicine specialist so depending on the practice you may not need to see two doctors. In my experience the midwives do not see high risk patients. My doctor does take a more holistic approach than many but she does order all the standard tests and ultrasounds. Depending on why you are considered high risk may affect the approach your OB takes.

I see Dr. Ellen Landsburger at Montefiore OB/GYn and woman's health. I am delivering at Weiler hospital-both the hospital and the doctor's office are in Morris Park in the Bronx. I live in White Plains.

I'm not sure about midwives but I have seen Dr. Chavez in Winthrop's Perinatal unit for a few issues that I was having, and he was wonderful. I know he works with high risk patients. I'm kind of on the border of being high risk.

Re: For all the high risk mommies to be..
When I went on a hospital tour with the stony brook midwives I was looking to switch OBGYN and I was about 20 weeks. At the time I had a partial placenta previa and asked if they would still take me at the practice. The one midwife told me to stick with my doctors. My placenta moved at 24 weeks, and everything was fine. So i don't think they will take you if your already considered high risk.

Winthrop is one of the 18 regional perinatal care centers in NYS. They have a NICU equipped to handle the most serious neonatal Heath problems. I do not know about the hospitals reputation for handling high risk pregnancy/delivery.
