Re: For all you picture taking moms
What is your budget?
I like the Canon Power shot on a lower budget.
Some moms have the Nikkon D40 or D80 but that's $$$$$

Re: For all you picture taking moms
I would love an SLR, but it isn't in our budget. BUT we have a very good camara. We have an Olympus 710 and we really like it. Plus, you can record video on it, whiche is nice for us b/c we don't have a video camara
It is tiny too.

I have the Nikon D50, which I don't think they make anymore. I would look into the D40 if you want a SLR.

Re: For all you picture taking moms
A SLR can be in your price range... For the amount that you'd spend on a regular point and shoot camera...look at this and the price!
What a great deal!!

Re: For all you picture taking moms
I just ordered the Nikon D40x based on lots of recommendations here and on other sites. SLR cameras are expensive, but they take gorgeous pictures super fast!

Re: For all you picture taking moms
Cameras change so quickly, I usually don't like giving opinions on exact ones. I usually guide people into deciding what features are most important to them. Price, size, speed, etc. I bought a Fuji because at the time, it was the fastest shutter speed, and picture-to-picture speed of any point and click out there. I knew that with little kids, speed of capturing the moment, and getting a lot of shots quickly was important. The price was reasonable, too which helped the decision.
Speed (button press to capturing the image) consecutive speed (time between two images) Price Size (subcompact, pocket size, SLR) Resolution (do you need to crop a lot of pics, and still print them at 8x10, or make posters with the pictures?) Extra features (movies, night shots, zoom, etc)
Depending on what is most important, your ideal camera will vary.
