For baby food - does the food processor need to be BPA free?

I was originally going to use my regular food processor to make the baby food, but it's definitely not BPA free. How much does it matter?

I'm tempted to buy the baby bullet (those faces are so cute!!!) b/c it's bpa free, but don't want to spend the extra money if I don't need to... TIA!

I am not an expert, but from what I have been reading you really have to go BPA free on things you are freezing/heating up b/c the temperature varation is what helps the chemicals seep into food.

So for something like the food processor, I would still use it. However, I made sure the containers were BPA free.

Most plastic can be toxic if ingested. But it has to be broken down and that is usually done by heat. So you shouldn't cook or heat things in plastic.

Now, I think most of us heat baby bottles, so now everyone makes them PBA free, because it has been scientifically proven that PBA can contaminate food if heated to a certain degree. Other chemicals we don't know for sure what will make them break down or how long it will take. But PBA is enemy #1.

So, as long as you don't put the food into the processor steaming hot, I think its fine.

I can't answer your question (I don't know) but I got the baby bullet yesterday just because I thought it was time for a little splurge and I love it! Chat Icon

eek, does that mean the ice cube trays need to be BPA free too? So many things to worry about! Chat Icon

it's soooo cute!! How much food can it make? I don't want to end up spending more time making the food if it's too small.

That picture is just of the storage jar, not of the mixing bowl. There is a small mixer bowl you can use that makes enough for probably 4-6 of those jars if you really filled it (I only made 2 carrots yesterday and it filled 3 jars halfway each) and there's a large mixer bowl that makes a good bit more. It's no food processor, but I think it'll be good for a reasonable amount to use and freeze when I'm ready for that stage.

I got mine at Bed Bath & Beyond -- you can ask them and they'll open the box and show you if you want to see.

I was really going to just use my food processor for all this, but I'm happy I got something just to make food for the baby.

It's almost impossible to find BPA free ice cube trays that aren't a fortune!!! When I made babyfood, I would puree the food with my regular food processor, then put it in a glass bowl to cool in the fridge. Once it was cold, I'd put it in the ice cube trays to freeze. I never put hot food in the trays.

Do you have a blender? That'll solve the problem.

I bought small BPA free tupperware containers to put in the freezer. They're 8 oz... so I know I get two meals out of whatever I put in there.
