For cape owners who don't use the front room as a bedroom...
Do any of you have a couch in that front room? We were going to make it a family room/playroom for dd but we don't think we'll be able to get a couch through the door. Right now it's only 30''. Most couches are 35'' +. TIA!

i grew up in a cape and my parents used that front room as a den. i loved the way they had it set up. you mean the room that would either be to the left or right of the front door correct?
also, when you walked in....instead of having a closet door there, my parents had it opened up so you could walk left or right when u walk in. I liked it that way as welll...it opened the house up a lot.

Correct. I would eventually like to open it up, but right now it is closed. I wanted to keep it closed for the time being so you wouldn't see dd's toys as soon as you walk in. But I don't think we are going to be able to get a couch in there.

My parents opened up that wall as well - my mom used it as her formal dining room with a china cabinet and piano... then it changed into my grandma's room, now it is their office. we couldnt get our couch through the door in our apartment - their is a company that comes and breaks it and puts it back together

It's our TV room and it was TIGHT getting the couch in there.
The delivery men had to take the door off the hinges and even then it was tough. Basically the couch can never leave that room.

We use it as our den, but we took down the bedroom door and made it a walk way, took out the closet. And also the wall and closet behind the front door.
Here are some pics.

Yes we do--two of them. We tilted them to the side and they fit...I'll upload pics if I can find them.

I am probably going to put a futon in there - you can fold or take apart the frame if you need to. We are using it as a guest room, playroom, though, so I am not worried about it being the most comfortable seating in the house. We have a finished basement we are going to use for a family room.
