For girls who are not BF

When you tell people that you are not BF do they make you feel guilty?

YES! I am so glad you posted this. A few people I used to work with and a couple of DH's family members made me feel that way when I told them I wasn't. I just told them its not for me and I am choosing just formula instead. It really annoys me tho!

Like you said its just not for me and when I say that the conversation should be over but of course everyone has to tell me that
I should at least try it for a month and how good it is for the baby
meanwhile I have so many kids in my family and very few have been BF and they are all very healthy

Don't let anyone make you feel bad about not BF. It's a personal choice and no one's business. I would not even think of asking someone this anyway.

I know a lot of people who recently gave birth and did not BF. Some of them told me they were made to feel bad at the hospital, but stuck to their guns. There babies are all healty and fine.

Good luck!Chat Icon

Jer- Dont let anyone make you feel bad about your decisions.... BFing is not for everyone!

The best thing for your baby...is whats best for you!!! A baby can pick up when your uncomfortable, and make her very uncomfortable as well... Feeding your child is something thats done with so much joy and pride... You do that the way thats BEST FOR YOU!!!!!

I just wanted to add... for me... when I choose to BF I had alot of people who reamed me for doing so! You never can win...someone will always disagree with you no matter what!Again- Whats best for your baby is whats best for you!

I am getting the same thing as we are choosing to soley BF. Bottom line is, WE must do what feels right for US and OUR child is all that matters! DH is with me on this too Chat Icon The heck with that all else has to say... Best of luck to you in whatever you decide to do.

Re: For girls who are not BF

I didn't BF my first son. He passed due to SIDS. My new doctor used that as a way to "try" to get me to BF my next baby. Saying it was good for the baby, and will make the next baby more "healthy". I had already decided on my own to at least try to BF my next. But I still felt really offened.

People who know me didn't because they knew how disappointed I was that it didn't work out.

But strangers will totally make you feel bad. Over the summer I was lectured by another mom at the park when I was feeding Sarah a bottle and she asked if it was breast milk. She proceeded to tell me that Sarah would never be smart, healthy, etc. I cried the whole way home.

Then I got an earful from some old lady at the post office who said that it's my fault my baby is fat, if I'd breast fed her she'd be healthy. I was so taken aback I tried to explain that my milk never came in and she told me that I need to stop lying to make myself feel better for hurting my child. I sat in the car and cried for 5 minutes.

Now I try to remember that it's a very sensitive topic to a lot of people, just like politics and I have to learn to ignore it. A lot easier said than done.

I'm sorry your doctor said that, it's a very small minded opinion, IMO. I've not read anything that proves that BF or FF contributes to SIDS. That's why it's still an unexplainable problem.

I agree, I am shocked that a Dr would say something like that. How insensitive. Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: For girls who are not BF

I have had people try to make me feel guilty for not even trying to BF. I knew it was not for me, I didn't even want to try it. There was a person who has no kids had tried to make me feel guilty and then in the next breath said she would never have tried it either Chat Icon
