? for mommies with NO changing table
Hi Girlies, Just wondering, if you didn't buy a changing table for and instead are using a dresser top for your changing pad -- how would a person secure the changing pad to the top??? I'm sure they sell some kind of strap or something that would make it safe, right?? I can't fathom that you just plunk the changing pad down on top of a dresser??
Seriously I have even googled this question to no avail, and my pg brain just gives up lately. I'm too tired so figured I'd just ask all of you, thanks if you know the answer!!!

I don't know of any strap, but the changing pad won't really move anywhere. My sister has this set up as well and the pad stays where you put it.
Also, you'll always be right next to the baby when he/she is on the changing pad - I wouldn't worry about him/her going anywhere.

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
I am planning on doing this, but haven't started on the nursery yet. I have 2 ideas that I want to try.
1)Cut a piece of a non-slip rug pad and but it between the changing pad and the dresser
2)If that doesn't work, I might try velcro. (My dresser has a painted surface so I can always repaint if needed afterward)

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
My husband secured the changing pad in the back of the dresser...there was a strap to screw into the back of the dresser...when we are done using it, we can just unscrew it and no one will ever know it was there!

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
WOW thanks, girls!!!!! I knew someone would know!!!!! Lauren I think I'm going to do the same thing as your DH, just for safety's sake; hopefully I'll find a pad with a strap??? I'd think that's a standard safety item but more and more I'm finding there's no such thing as "standard" in the baby universe.
Thank you all, I just didn't want to end up as a headline in the NY Post..

We are going to do your #1. There is no way I would stick velcro on the top of the furniture we picked. Id end up ruining the surface and she will have this furniture for a VERY long time.

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
We're most likely not getting a changing table as there's no room in our 1 bdrm appt. I hadn't really thought about it, but the rug pad sounds like a great idea.

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
the changing pad itself has some kind of rubber material on the bottom to prevent slipping.

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
Ours sits on the dresser and has a non-slip bottom. It came with straps to screw into the back of the dresser but we felt it was secure enough (and didn't want to remove the hutch to screw the straps in).

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
We have a painted antique small dresser, and used double-sided adhesive velcro. When DD was done with it, we peeled back the velcro, used rubbing alcohol for the adhesive residue, and had to do minor painting touch-ups.
We are now going to be using this same table and system for this baby.

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
I put one of those rubber mats under it (like you put in a drawer) and it doesn't move at all, HOWEVER, I don't recommend it b/c it pretty much ruined the top of the dresser .

I actually used a piece of thin rubber drawer liner (it looks like mesh). After 3 years it is still there.
I think most changing table pads come w/straps...at least mine did

Re: ? for mommies with NO changing table
We bought the changing station for the dresser. It's just another wood piece that sits on top of the dresser (screwed into the back of the dresser) and then the changing pad fits snugly inside of it. There is also room to the right for all the changing supplies. Once the baby is bigger and you don't need it anymore the changing station comes off and it's a regular dresser top.
