For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
With DS I bottlefed and breastfed and I continued that at home and I think that led to me being unsuccessful. Did you strictly BF even at night?

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
As hard as it was, I EBF both while in the hospital. I knew if I had any issues I could just ring a nurse (whether or not they could help was another thing). With DS, he never had formula, and with my second, DD, I didn't give her formula until she was 3 weeks old (I got sick and couldn't BF).

Yup I BF RTC. As long as they know you EBF the nursery will bring you the baby at the proper times if you are unable to get them yourself.
ETA: I think it's important to EBF in the beginning in order to be successful.

Yes, baby stayed in the room with me and I BFed around the clock (until I begged for a pacifier on the second night.)

I strictly BF because I didn't want to cause nipple confusion.

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
I had to pump with Joseph because he couldn't suck properly (immature sucking muscles? whatever it was is common in preemies). That would tire him out too soon.
My neonatologist told me to nurse for only 10 minutes total & to pump the rest. It was enough to get him used to the breast. Afterwards, we bottlefed him the breastmilk, followed by the Neosure supplement.
I had no problems with switching him back & forth.
Maddie - I nursed from the get-go. She was introduced to a bottle as soon as I had pumped enough to get some extra sleep. No issues going back & forth with her either.

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
I don't know why I have more anxiety about it this time around then I did the first. I am going to go to some classes this time around before hand. I guess alot has to do with the fact that he was a lazy eater and cluster fed also and I am scared I will encounter that again but really won't have the time to sit their and do it like I did with DS.

With both children I EBF. They would bring them too me during the night. Truthfully those moments in the middle of the night with only the glow on the TV are some of my most precious first moments with my children

I started with BF only in the hospital, but DS wasn't gaining weight and they wanted me supplementing. So I did both. I BF's for 4 1/2 months

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
I EBF in the hospital. Breastfeeding is really important to me and I didn't want to jeopardize my supply or my son's ability to latch correctly by giving any supplemental bottles.
At about 3 weeks I started giving him a bottle of expressed milk now and then so that he would take the bottle when I returned to work.
ETA: DS roomed-in with me, which I think it really important. I felt like that gave me more confidence in my ability to understand him and take care of him. I was never shy about ringing the nurses if I was having a problem breastfeeding. I think both of these things helped me be successful at breastfeeding.

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
Julia was born 2 weeks early because I had preclamsia, so she had to stay in the hospital for a week, I was there for 4 days (c-section) and was able to pump in the hospital to give the nurses breast milk for her, but at night she was bottle fed by the nurses since she wasn't allowed to leave NICU room. I thought that I would have such a problem BF her when we got home.....
Well Julia was a pro at BF I had no problems and she latched on right away, I would BF her at night too, she never had formula, I BF for 11 months.

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
I EBF from the very beginning. I had them bring DD to me at 1am and 5am as well as on demand if she was cranky at all in the nursery overnight. I think it really helped us get a good start. I BF her for 2+ years. With the second one on the way I am very nervious about not having enough time at home to sit and BF all day in the beginning. Dont stress yourself about it though, it wont do any good, just try to do the best you can!!

i strictly bf day and night, and no formula for us til 3-4 months when i weaned her since i had to go back to work.
ETA: she stayed in my room with me instead of sending her to the nursery in the hospital, so i could feed her.

Re: For moms that EBF, what did you do in the hospital?
I only wanted to BF because I was worried about nipple confusion. I had trouble getting DS to latch so I don't think he was getting enough. His blood sugar dropped too low so they had to give him formula, but they gave it to him from a cup to avoid nipple confusion. They also gave me a SNS (supplemental nursing system) to try to use so that he would get some formula while he was nursing. Aside from the first days in the hospital he didn't get any formula until 6 months. I didn't really let him drink a bottle until 3 or 4 weeks. A few times before that if I needed to have someone else give him a bottle, my LC told us to keep pulling the nipple out of his mouth as he was drinking to make bottle feeding more difficult that way he wouldn't prefer the bottle over the breast. We would only let him get 1 or 2 sucks at a time.
I always BF for all of his feedings even at night. In order to keep my supply up I would have had to pump to make up for the missed feedings, which just seemed like more work to me. Not to mention that I HATED pumping.

I EBF all 3 children. Its rough in the hospital because you are trying to recover but I couldnt imagine not being there to feed them.
