For s & g.....do you believe in any sort of man-made/induced/accelerated climate change?
if so, what changes have you made or are you making in your life?
If not, well, if not I guess you would do nothing, right
what are your thoughts (for or against) on the matter?
ETA: I cannot believe I wrote excelerated. I need help.

DH is a Biology/Chemistry/Earth Science major - and always goes on and on about how the worst excelerated climate change causes are from natural things - ten times worse than anything we do as people. When he talks about this it is at ABOUT this time where I start to tune him out.
He starts to go into specific examples of volcanic shiit and natural gasses that get released -- and I just hit mute lol. So, for specific scientific crap you'd have to ask him. Oh and he would just LOVE to talk about it!

Yes, I think our consumerism is a factor- all our *stuff* and huge cars and use of resources.
Since my kid was born I've been mind-boggled by the amount of PACKAGING that is used for her toys and stuff. It's mind-boggling the amount of cardboard and plastic that is used to keep a friggen doll in a box. I feel a little better in that I at least donate most of her stuff so it's still in use, but still. A lot of waste.

Honestly, I do. I think we have done more in the past 100 years than milleniums combined. It IS just my opinion. Does nature play a part? Yes but I don't think we have exactly *helped* our planet.

Oh man- I could really go on and on about this. I've seen good arguments on both sides but IMHO the burning of fossil fuels at the RATE we are is absolutely contributing to this warming period and causing environmental conditions that we're not even remotely aware of the longterm consequences yet.
But this is coming from an env. consultant whos a major league (closet) tree hugging hippie so consider the source

I believe that nature cause much more of an effect than humans, but we're definitely not helping things. We've had numerous ice ages, and the polar ice caps have melted and regrown. LI was made by glaciers coming as far south as the sound, and they receded due to global warming, but not by humans.
However, I still think we should do our part to make the planet healthier. I have solar panels, dual-flush toilet, corn-based carpet, zero VOC paint, sustainably harvested bamboo floors, vinegar and water weed killer, etc, etc. I'm also teaching DC all about conservation, and "Reduce, Reuse, Recycle"
Here's a pic of DS's Cub Scout Pinewood Derby car he made recently.... All his concepts. I helped with execution. zero VOC paint, and the "windshield" was a recycled plastic bottle section..... Image Attachment(s):

Re: For s & g.....do you believe in any sort of man-made/induced/accelerated climate change?
Yes - I do understand the science that says much climate change is purely natural, but humans definitely put a lot of bad stuff in the air, water and earth, and it surely can't be helping matters.
I recycle. I try to rein in our electricity consumption by using fluorescent lightbulbs, turning off electronics when not in use, not using the a/c unnecessarily, etc. I have reusable grocery bags - one of these days, I'll remember to bring them to the grocery store with me. I donate items and buy secondhand when feasible, both to offset financial cost and the environmental cost of producing new items. I carpool to work. Hopefully that's all helping make our household's footprint a little smaller than it would be otherwise.

Re: For s & g.....do you believe in any sort of man-made/induced/accelerated climate change?
I think no matter what people's opinions are, we could all do a better job. It's no secret we've become a consumerist society where "throw away" purchases are commonplace. Once you put it out to the garbage pickup, you release your responsibility for it, right? Out of sight, out of mind?
Well, take a look at this...
Article on how the ocean is becoming a trash heap
A video on what a Hawaiian student found when researching why the birds of Hawaii are dying off in record numbers
(that last one is part of a larger series I saw on TV that actually made me cry)
Now, you could say that it's the garbage carter's job to put it in the right place. But if we weren't putting as many TONS of garbage, much of it non biodegradable, out to pasture, we could do something about this problem too.
But so many people want it to be 'someone else's' problem to fix.
