For the Catholics or anyone who knows
(Background: I had a miscarriage this week.) Today in the mail I received a card from someone stating: "Imploring the tender Mercy of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, Kristin ... is enrolled in the Society of St. Pius V Mass League and will share in all the spiritual benefits and graces of a special Mass celebrated each Sunday for one year." What does this mean? Is it customary for me to send the person who requested this a thank you card?

Its a mass card. It means prayers will be said for you at whatever church it mentioned. I think it's up to you if you'd like to send a thank you. It's not really necessary, but might be nice.
I'm sorry about your miscarriage.

All that means is that the person got a Mass said for you which means that when the priest says the Mass they will offer it for specific people (people usually do this for people who have passed away, are ill, or are in your case, going through a difficult time). it's a nice gesture. i might call or e-mail and thank them, but i don't think it's necessary to send a formal thank you. although you can if you want. :)

I would send a thank you card. The person spent money on it. Probably $15 or so.
I am sorry for your loss. I know how hard it is.

That's what I was wondering. So, it does cost money? I never knew that and DH wasn't sure.
