For the DIYers - my new favorite product
I just saw this in my current issue of Good Housekeeping. I wish I had some tiling to do, so I could try it out.
"SimpleMat is a double sided, adhesive sheet that is perfect for attaching tile to a countertop or backsplash. It can be used on drywall, plywood, plastic laminate, or painted surfaces. Simply cut the mat to fit, press in place, peel off backing, and attach tile. SimpleMat is available at The Home Depot."demo video

Personally, if I'm going through the effort of putting tile up, I wouldn't use double-sided tape. I'd rather use the stuff that has been used by the experts for the last hundred years or so. It's not that hard to use mastic, and you know that once you put it up, it will stay up there forever. Also, with mastic, you can wiggle things around a bit to make the tile spacing perfect.

OK, but for those who dont want to, want an easier way, or arent particularly handy or are intimidated to try tiling, I still think its a great product.
You are obviously not its target market consumer

it does and you can adjust the tiles once they are on.

Re: For the DIYers - my new favorite product
hmmmm, maybe my kitchen!!
For us to have to lay down tile the regular way, it would be WAY to hard since all cabinets, countertop, stove..etc..are in the way, this could be a much easier way for us.

I haven't seen this particular product specifically, but I have seen and used many products that are similar in nature. It's a "quicker, easier" way to do things. Just about all of them cause more work in the long run, since they often don't work as promised. If this product is unlike the majority of "shortcuts", then that's great. Hopefully it does work, though.

ok, and Im glad you found what works for you, really, I am. But I didnt post to start a debate as to which product was better. Honestly, I dont care what everyone else uses. Just putting it out there as an alternative.
With that said, Good Housekeeping did recommend it in its magazine and they dont recommend just anything without extensive testing.

I'm just saying that don't expect it to be the end-all be-all for tile laying. Read the reviews of real-world usage before using. I'd hate to see someone using (any) product without knowing all the facts, and possible downsides, just to have problems later on. From what I've read, apparently it does work for some people. However, for many others, it either doesn't work at all, tiles fell off, it was harder to use, etc. It's possible that it's their own skill level that's to blame.
Even Consumer Reports has flaws in their testing...
I don't want to debate it, either, since it doesn't affect me one way or the other. I just wanted to let potential users know another side, besides the vendor's side.
There's also a lot of downsides to thinset and mastic, and many people can't work with that medium, and this would be a great alternative.

Re: For the DIYers - my new favorite product
I saw this issue of GH- I am really, really hoping to talk DH into a new kitchen. If not, this seems like a good alternative because I *hate* our current backsplash.

yes, youve mentioned all that (on a product youve never used). Whatever...youre missing the point NO ONE said it was a superior product....no one recommended it. So Im not sure what "other side" you are talking about is since there was no side presented. Just that it was a cool new product, end of story. Youve really taken a very simple post way out of context.....simmer down.

I have to agree with my sister here. You kind of taken this post and turned it into frankly, a stupid debate. You could have debates like this on every single product out there on the market...

Re: For the DIYers - my new favorite product
Did the article review the price? I wonder how much you would need for a counter and back splash and how much that would cost? Basically how economical is it?
The reviews on that site you gave don't look too promising. That's a shame for something that makes it easier.
