For the mommies that frequent the subways and buses can you please recommend your fabulously durable and incredibly lightweight stroller?
I am having major anxiety about this. We have yet to have taken Julia on public transportation but I plan to soon. There are so many places I want to take DD and we are in the city so it is unavoidable. For years I have watched those poor mommies lug babies and equipment up the stairs and I sympatized. I did some test driving and research and I am really liking the lightweight Maclaren (I forget its exact name) and the Chico. I also like those umbrella strollers for this purpose, but I am almost freaked out by their low price (as in, how good could they reallly be ). Can any of the city savvy moms offer any feedback?

I have the Combi Cosmo, it is very light and folds up super easy. Image Attachment(s):

I have the UppaBaby G-Luxe. I love it. Its lightweight and easy to fold up. When I first trekked out with DD on public transportation, I had her in the Baby Bjorn and then when I got to where I was going , I would put her in the stroller. Now, she's walking and has out grown the Bjorn, I don't know what I'm going to do when I want to go someplace. I guess I'm going to have to drag her grandma

Yes the Bjorn is a great option too but my DD grew out of it awhile ago.

All of my city friends swear by their Maclarens for public transportation purposes.

I TRY to use my Chicco carrier (the You & Me) but when I need the stroller, I use the Peg Perego Si.
it's the lightest weight one I've found and I REALLY like it. best of all, Luce LOVES it.
it's fairly easy to open and close (though I think Maclarens have the edge there) and pretty easy to maneuver as well.
good luck, and as long as it's not rush hour, it's really not as bad as you think!!!!

I love my chicco c6 -its only 11lbs, and totally durable. Its a one hand close, and has a carry strap which is nice if you take your little one out and need to handle both like on a bus.
Good Luck! Its not as bad as you think!

When I have to get on the train with one or both kids I always use cheap umbrella stroller that you can get for around $20 in any baby or toy store.
stroller
I love them- they fold easily and weight nothing and when they get beat up or break I just get a new one. Of course, you can't use them for a very young baby, but you probably wouldn't want to take a very young baby on the train anyway...

I use my Maclaren Volo for the train.
I think it is only 8 lbs or something like that so when I am at a station that is not handicap accessible, it is light enough to haul up the stairs.

Oh I REFUSE to go anywhere rush hour, so I am not worried about that. I am worried about lugging baby and equipment, this is definitely a time when I am regretting not pumping iron more in my youth. I am lucky I can get enough coordination together to put two feet in front of me to walk, now I have weights to carry!! And up and down stairs!!!!

I love the lightness of these!! My whole issue is DD's readiness for it. When do you think is a good time? My daughter is 6.5 months currently.

I think it depends on her development. The problem with those strollers is that they provide no back support whatsoever, it's just a soft piece of fabric. How is her head control? If she is able to support herself well in a sitting position she should be fine, since it's only for a couple of hours. I wouldn't use a stroller like this every day for a baby that young of course, but I am sure you knew that without me
