Re: For those familiar with NYC...
Regarding what?
Some friends of mine live at 42nd and 12th. They are starting to build luxury apartment buildings there, adn they are pretty nice.
Ninth avenue is al restaurants in that area. Tenth may be too- not sure.

Re: For those familiar with NYC...
My friend just moved out of his building on 43th btwn 10th and 11th. Only because he moved in w/his girlfriend. But I was at his apt many times, luxury building, really nice. There's lots of stuff on 9th ave so only an avenue away.

43rd and 10th is Hell's Kitchen. It's a great area. Lots of restaurants. It's close to the river where they built a new bike path and park.

Re: For those familiar with NYC...
You are right near the Port Authority bus terminal (on 8th) and I know at night, that area has a ton of degenerates. When I was walking to a job one morning (6:30am) I saw a man in a suit trying to get two women to 'get wit' him. I would stay far away from 42nd and 8th at night.
During the day it is very active and crowded so a lot different.

Re: For those familiar with NYC...
DH and I walked there from Penn Station with a rolling suitcase at 8:30 at night and felt perfectly safe.
Lots of great restaurants nearby - walking distance to the theatres...etc.
Loved it!

Re: For those familiar with NYC...
Our old corporate apartment was located on 43rd between 10th & 11th. We've been through there a zillion times, walking through at night with the kids. I felt perfectly safe.
If you were headed south (toward 42nd-Port Authority), I'd say walk up to Broadway & go down...unless of course you're headed toward Cupcake Cafe.
You're in walking distance of Restaurant Row, theatre district.

Re: For those familiar with NYC...
My friend just sold his place on 43rd and 11th....as AP said - that's Hell's Kitchen and there are great restaurants over there. It's very safe day or night. I would stay away from 8th though...that's not a great area.
