They way I take notes, it's just something I would understand because I write my own doodling in how I think Id be workng on it (a photo project) if that makes sense.
I also have a book my sister gave me, that you guys can get cheap online
something like this

I dont know what version of photoshop youre working with, etc. but most versions are similar if you do get a book. ("Elements" is a little different).
I think your best bet is to grab a few books from the library, see which one you like best and buy it used.
my notes are just my own chickenscratch that I can make sense of.
and what Barbara gave us was copies from a book/magazine, which can be found in any of these books too. depending on what specifically youre looking for.

ETA: Also, Im more of a hands-on learner, I learned more from seeing it done than anything else. so like Barb said, play around with it to get practice, trial and error and we'll all be showing off our masterpieces for our holiday cards!
