For those of you with curious kitties

My cats have slept on the bed with us for years, so there is no kicking them out of the room - they will cry and scratch at the door all night - how did you keep them out of the bassinet? Here is my bassinet - with a little black man hanging out in the bottom. I will get a tent cover thing for the crib and pack n play but not sure what to do with this:

Re: For those of you with curious kitties

Does he sleep on your bed even though the bassinet is set up?
Maybe he is just investigating but when he sees you and DH in bed, he will try to sleep with you instead.

Re: For those of you with curious kitties

Well we moved the bassinet into our bedroom last night to see how they'd react and one sleeps in my arms and he tried to crawl into it about 5 times until I finally put something in it and then he retreated to my feet. Should I maybe keep the bassinet in the middle of the bedroom so that they can't walk right into it from the bed?

I hate to say it, but I think that the cats need to be evicted from your bedroom!! I have 2 cats and they sleep in another room, but I would rather have a few nights of them meowing and crying than a long time of them trying to climb into the bassinet!

You know what they say, an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!!!

I suppose - I am so sad for them for all of the changes - but obviously baby comes first.Chat Icon

Re: For those of you with curious kitties

See thats why I put our 3 cats in our basement when DD was born, I didn't want them jumping into her bassinet at night, I was so nervous about that. Our basement is big, and they love it down there now.
I think you may have to keep them out of your room, it will be very hard for them to not stay away from the baby, I'm sure they will get use to not coming into your room, it will take a little time. Chat Icon

Re: For those of you with curious kitties

OMG that is so strange my cat does the same exact thing and it looks exactly like your cat! They always slept in our room too but when the baby was born we kicked them out because cats can steel baby's breathe. It is very dangerous to leave your cat alone with the baby.

We actually put them in another room at night otherwise they scratch and cry at the door. We used to keep the door closed during the day also so he wouldn't jump in it but now that the baby is born he seems to be staying out of it.

Well the pack n play where she'll be on the main floor during the day will have a tent that goes over it. It's mainly the bassinet, which she'll be in at night - I suppose we can just lock them out at night. My other BIG boy made himself at home in her crib - DEF need a tent for that one.

i can so see my cat doing this - we are going to have to figure something out - I'm afraid he will try and sleep right on top of the baby!

Re: For those of you with curious kitties

We put balloons in the crib & bassinet before the baby came. Chat Icon One day kitty got curious, jumped in the crib and scared herself sh*tless by popping a balloon. She NEVER EVER again went in the crib- and we're going on 10 months now. When we were using the bassinet, obviously the balloons came out, but when the baby was out- the balloons went in. SOunds mean, but it worked! Chat Icon

I don't think anyone mentioned this...I think we all know that isn't true, give us some credit here! I can just guess that most people don't want cats jumping into bed with their infants. I know I didn't want either of my cats in bed with my newborn...

Jessbaby did mention it. I'm not saying let your cats sleep in the babies room. I was just pointing out it is falseChat Icon
