For those that found out the sex before...

For those that found out the sex before...

I was just wondering...

My friend is pregnant and she did not plan on finding out the sex, nor did she want to...she was looking forward to the surprise. Her husband was dying to know and so, as I told her, she caved. Anyhow, my question is: were you disappointed (I hate to say that since your child's birthday is never a disappointment) that you missed the surprise the "day of?" Secondly, would you consider keeping the second one a surprise?

I hate surprises and I'm too much of a planner not to know, so no I don't regret finding out the sex before. Maybe when we have one of each, I may consider letting it be a surprise only bc we would have had the basics for each sex.

No way and No way.

The day of all you hope and pray for is a healthy baby and a quick delivery. IMO, the surprise is more for other people. Other people like to get the call and hear "It's a ____!" A surprise is the last thing I was thinking of.

And if I got PG again I would definitely find out the sex again. It was great knowing because it helped me prepare and helped both of us bond with our baby. I wouldn't have it any other way.

I knew with both of my children, I did so mostly so we could prepare, and I just wanted to know. If we ever had anymore, I would probably want to know again!
I don't think knowing took anything away from that day, I got to meet my children, and it was amazing! I'm not too big on suprises, but I think it would be nice to not know as well, I just couldn't wait!

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

I think you're baby is a surprise regardless of whether you know the sex or not; How long will the baby be? How much will the baby weigh? What color will it's eyes be? Will it look more like you or DH? Plus the overwhelming joy and love you experience when you first see that baby will never be affected by whether you know if the baby's a boy or girl.
I liked knowing in advance so I could decorate his room accordingly and buy clothes accordingly. I'm sure there's a huge thrill in waiting and being surprised when your baby is born, but it just wasn't for me.

My DH and I didn't want to find out the sex and I'm so happy we didnt cause it was just sooooo exciting through out my pregnancy just to wonder what the sex of the baby was inside me and when the big day came and the baby was coming out and finally hearing the doctor say ITS A GIRL!!!! my DH and I just felt so much more emotion and excitement!! Its was such a wonderful feeling! The next time I get pregnant we aren't finding out the sex as well. Chat Icon

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

I was your friend and REALLY didn't want to find out...I caved and we found out and it was so great...I was so happy to know and we did compromise by not telling anyone until my shower (well, it was supposed to be until she was bornm, but when I was opening those presents, I was DYING to tell everyone!)
It was great!

Nothing beats the moment you find out if you are having a son/daughter...no matter where and when it is!

I will definitely be finding out the next time!

No way! I loved knowing before so I could plan it. I look at it this way.. either its a surprise at the sono or a surprise in the delivery room. And we are definitely finding out for our next one.

Nope not at all. I loved knowing ahead of time that I was having my little girl I always dreamed of and I had so much fun planning for her arrival.
I hope we get it right and have a little boy next and I can have just as much fun planning for his arrival.
For me the anticipation of seeing her and holding her was enough. I didn't need the surprise of knowing what she was the day she was born.

I think that 5 month wait until you can find out is long enough. We loved knowing, when we were told it was a boy we cried, so it really doesnt matter when or where.

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

I was on the fence about finding out, and caved for my husband...but that moment in the sonogram room finding out, just the two of us (well 3 with the tech) was really nice. We got to have that little secret to ourselves for a few hours while going out to lunch and shared the news with our parents and had them over for dinner and dessert. I will definitely find out with the second...lets pray for a Chat Icon because we have SO MANY CLOTHES!

We did not find out and I am glad. I felt it was more exciting for everyone else not to know too. With the adoption we know we will have a son and I feel there is something not as fun about knowing..JMO

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

Not at all....

We made the day we found out a big day- both moms came with us... and we still got to be surprised...when the they told us the sex (it just wasnt that same day I met my son) we went to lunch, and registered...

To me- the day I gave birth.... I got the biggest surprise when I saw what my son looked like...

Now- when I have my final baby (and if I have both genders already) I might not find out....just for fun.... Ill already have stuff for both sexes - so Ill already be prepared...however knowing me, Ill never be able to take the suspense....

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

I didnt find out with my first two and loved being surprised. It was always tempting but I was glad we waited. This time, against my DHs wishes, I really wanted to find out and we did. He's not born yet and I know it wont detract from his life as my son and a human being but I will absolutely miss that "It's a ___" moment that we had with our first 2 kids at birth. If I was having another child after this (which Im not!!), I would wait. Thats just me though, as you can see from the responses, everyone's different.

me too. I hate when people suggest it is a dissapointment to find out...b/c of course the MOST important thing is a healthy child. Some like the surprise, others don't. DH and I are planners and loved knowing the sex beforehand. I felt I could bond with her a bit more knowing I was carrying a lil girl in my belly Chat Icon

Re: For those that found out the sex before...

I wondered this too when we found out b/c DH wanted to know but I really didn't. But I can say in no way was it ANY less exciting. I actually felt like I had TWO huge surprises instead of just one. Out first surprise was when we found out that we were having a boy...we were so surprised and able to celebrate the fact that we would have a little boy in our lives. Our second surprise came when we were able to meet our little man and introduce him to everyone we loved.

The funny thing is I don't see how people say it "isn't a surprise if you find out" because HELLO it IS a surprise the day you find out and a surprise when you meet your little one :)

I wouldn't change it at all and yes, we will be finding out for our second child as well.
