What kind of mattress did you get? I don't necessarily mean brand, but did you get a firm mattress? Pillow top? I can't seem to find any info about what's best for a toddler/small child.

We just ordered and received DD's new mattress and now I'm 2nd guessing the pillowtop. Chat Icon

My dh got a firm mattress for our ds. But to be honest I never would of thought of what kind, I probably would of just picked it out without thinking.

Firm but not too heavy. I think it is a Sealy or a Stearns & Foster.

The pillow top is fine as she seems like she'd be old enough. But make sure you get a full waterproof cover. Even if she's potty trained, there are always accidents....This week we're grateful for the washable ones in Maddie's room...saved her matress for vomit.Chat Icon

We bought a regular mattress because you cannot flip a pillow top. With young kids, there is always the chance of wetting the bed, and I NEEDED to be able to flip it over occasionally so that I could Febreeze it, clean it, and flip it after accidents.

We bought a pillow top and we use a mattress protector under her sheets...has definitely saved the mattress from accidents.

there's only one problem with it - I fall asleep in bed with her every night because it's too darn comfortable!!!

We got a pillowtop and the mattress protector. We thought a firm mattress was too uncomfortable, and the ultra plush (or something like that) was the same as the pillowtop without the pillowtop, if that makes any sense. The salesman said they provide the same amount of support and it's just a matter of comfort whether or not you get the pillowtop.

Whew! Glad to hear others got a pillow top. I didn't know if it was a "no-no" from a posture/support stand point for toddlers.

We purchased a mattress protector with the mattress set, but I've never seen one like the one we got. The sides extend all the way past the boxspring. Is that normal???Chat Icon I figured it would just go over the mattress only.

Yep...

My dh says that firm is not always better. His usual bed that he sells is a Kingsdown. We have a full size Kingsdown.

The mattress protector that my dh brought home fits the mattress only.

Yeah, I'm gonna' have to hit Bed Bath for some different mattress protectors because this one is just wacky. I can't put a bed skirt or the safety rail on with it.

Re: ? for those who bought a regular bed for your toddler...

We bought a firm one just because that's what she slept on for the 2 years she was on the crib mattress, so I assumed she would be more comfortable on it. Honestly, we bought her bed at Ikea and the mattress to go with it, so it's probably as crappy as mattresses go, but I figured we'll likely have quite a few accidents on this one (as we already have) so I didn't want to invest too much into it until she was fully pottytrained.
