For those who had babies sleeping through the night, then they stopped, PLEASE help!
Ava had been sleeping through the night for almost ten weeks, then last week, she stopped and would wake up in the middle of the night. I figured it was because she was teething and was in pain. The doctor said do not feed her when she wakes. Well, last night as awful. She fell asleep at 7:30, before her last bottle, I tried to feed her in her sleep and she only took two ounces, so I put her down. Not a peep until 12:30, then all hell broke loose. She was up every 30 minutes crying and crying and sobbing. We gave her tylenol and it did nothing. Finally at 4am, I held her while she slept and then finally laid down with her in our bed and she stayed sleeping until 7am. But I do not want her in our bed. I just don't know what to do. What did you do when your baby started to wake up again at night? I just don't know what the right thing to do is.

For this exact reason I've used the CIO method with Jack at numerous times. To this day we still go through bad sleeping periods and consistently using CIO has worked for us. Sometimes it is things like teething or illness, but if you can rule that out and just assume it is a sleep issue, if you are ok with letting her CIO, I would try that. It takes a few days but then all will be back to normal again.

I think it might still be teething. I have zero problem letting her cry it out, but she's only 4 months old, and I think that might be a little too young, IMO. Also, it's hard to have her CIO because her crib is right in our room. We only have a one bedroom apartment at the moment, and it's hard when you're right next to her to let her CIO.

I would consider Madeline a great sleeper at night(naps are a whole other story), but every once in a while , even at 8 months old, she'll have a night like that. LAst night happened to be one of them- up every hour or so, but I think that is b/c she is getting a cold. Then she goes back to normal. A few days later I can ususally sttribute it to something- she was teething, she learned to do something new, but sometimes I can't. See how she does tonight. Taking her into bed with you isn't so bad every once in a while. Its not somethign you want to do all the time, but once night/am won't matter.

For teething, I found that infant ibuprofen works so much better than tylenol. So maybe try that and it may keep her sleeping a little longer. The only other thing that worked for us when Jack was that little was bouncing on the exercise ball....it would quiet him immediately.

Ibuprofen should only be used for infants 6 months and up.

Sorry I don't have any advice because we always fed her or let her sleep in our bed. She finally stopped waking at all between 6-7 months.

I've been having the same problem. My son went from waking up once to waking up at least three times a night. It started when I went back to work. I've been nursing him and bringing hm to bed, i wouldn't advise making the bed a habit because now he goes to sleep in his crib, but he doesn't want to go back to his crib after he wakes up.

at 4 months I still may feed her but if you don't think it's hunger related, I guess try CIO?

I'm reading this post because I'm in the same boat. Roman is 8 months and up until 7 months he slept 11 hours a night. Now he wakes up about every hour on the hour after being put down for the night. I don't feed him but I have started to put him in bed with me because he seems to be comforted by having his back rubbed. He still does this low whining though. I feel so bad for him

is Ava at a developmental milestone?? They usually experience a sleep disturbance then
Also for teething you might be better giving her Motrin/Advil because it helps the swelling of the gums.

Re: For those who had babies sleeping through the night, then they stopped, PLEASE help!
Thanks for the responses ladies. It is definitely teething. She would barely eat today. She is in so much pain that she won't even take a bottle I was trying not to give her cereal today, hoping that she would take her bottle, but no luck. I'm pretty sure this is why she's been waking. She has not had a full bottle before bed for quite a few days now, and I'm sure she's waking up hungry and in pain. So tonight she ate three tablespoons of cereal mixed with a lot of formula. I was able to get her to drink two ounces, plus three in her cereal. I also added some pear juice to the cereal so she doesn't get constipated from it. Right now, she's sitting here oh-so-happy because she has a full belly for the first time in a couple of days. My poor baby. I wish she was old enough to have Motrin. I know they're not supposed to get it until at least 6 months.

At that age, I would have taken DS itno the bed with us, but after a certain time, I would go to the side of his crib and pat his back.
Good luck

I think since she fell alseep before her last bottle she was probably hungry.. Since it was 12 when she woke i would give her the bottle and then if she wakes up again at 4 or so give her a pacifier. I give my girls their last meal at 5pm and then they go to sleep about 6:30 and sleep until 5am and then i give them a pacifier and they sleep until 6:30am

Well, the cereal helped last night. She didn't sleep as long as usual, but she did sleep from 9:15pm to 6am. So I was happy about that. Thanks again everyone
