I had my staples removed today. You think I would as how do I care for the incision..Nope, totally didnt ask..Chat Icon Chat Icon
When staples were in, I was using peroxide (dr. told me in hospital to do so). Do I continue with peroxide?
I feel so silly right now. I cannot believe I didnt ask.

I had my staples out in the hospital before I was discharged and only had to gently wash with soap and water when I showered. No other special instructions.

Re: ? for those who had c-sections & staples.

nope no peroxirde. did they put a tape cover over where the staples were??? if they did you can just shower regular and the tape will eventually fall off, if they didnt cover them. a normal shower is the only thing you have to do. wasnt it the best feeling getting those staples out.?

Nothing at all. I just would let the soap drip down onto it when I showered. And then pat dry.

Re: ? for those who had c-sections & staples.

I didn't have any special instrutions other than drying them after a shower.

I delivered at NS in Manhasset and when I left they gave me a packet and inside was the direct number to the maternity nurses station. I think I called once or twice b/c I had questions. Check inside any paperwork that the hospital gave you and you may find the number.

Re: ? for those who had c-sections & staples.

MAKE SURE YOU PAT DRY!!!! TOTALLY DRY! I don't think I let mine dry enough and with the "overhang" it started to get funky (eww! TMI). After a while, I used the haridryer just to make sure it was good and dry.
I put bacitracin on it and a gauze so it didn't stick to my underwear and my "extra" skin. The doc didn't tell me to do it that way, I just did.

I had steri strips over the incision after the staples were taken out. I didn't have to do anything.

I also wasn't told to use anything special on it. I would just also pat dry after the shower and if it was a day when the baby wouldn't let me shower (because lets admit it, it happens in the beginning) I would make sure to use a washcloth to gently clean that area every day.

Thank You all so much. They did mention in the hospital about showering and letting the soap and water drip down. Ive been doing that daily. I go back next Mon. for a "check" so hopefully all will be ok.
