for those who have babies who stand, sit up, etc
DD is 9mos and sits up and stands up on her own now (also walking with a push toy i am so excited for my little girl!). trying to get her to nap now is difficult because she sits up and plays and stands and cries to get out instead of sleeping.
so if you DC does this, do you let them play and stand? i've been going in and laying her back down and telling her its naptime. what do you do?

I let him do his own thing until he gets tired, lays down on his own, and goes to sleep.

Same here. Takes her longer to fall asleep but it's nice that she plays on her own too.

I do the same for Evan. He can do as he pleases in the crib, and he will eventually put himself to sleep.

Re: for those who have babies who stand, sit up, etc
Usually when I lay DS down, he just sits up or stands up or crawls etc. There would be no point in trying to lay him down again since he'll just get back up.
I let him do what he wants and usually within 5-10 minutes he's out.
On a side note, YAY MIA!!!! I can't believe she's already walking with a push toy!

Re: for those who have babies who stand, sit up, etc
DS started that at 6 months...OY! I used to keep going back in there to lay him back down, but then just coudlnl't anymore... he would just get excited I was coming back and kept crying. So I stopped going in, and he learned how to get back down on his own and go to sleep. Still at 11 months, he stands for a good 10 mins or so, and then finally lays down to sleep. LOL.

Same here! He would get worked up again if one of us went in the room, and would get upset when we left.

Re: for those who have babies who stand, sit up, etc
I let him be, DS did this for maybe 2 weeks drove me nuts. He'd walk around the crib and babble, then fall asleep 10 minutes before it was time to wake up and eat. I let him sleep, at least an hour.
After the 2 weeks, he stopped doing it. Now he only naps 1 hour at a time, he used to nap 2 2 hour naps.
Don't know maybe this is a "phase" too.

thanks ladies! i still don't know what to do. i want her to know her crib is where she sleeps. i don't mind her playing when she wakes up, which is what she does, but i do mind when it's naptime.

She'll figure it out. She might need that quiet playtime alone to help settle herself down before naptime. It's really good for building their independence and self-esteem to let them have alone time, and this may be part of her own falling asleep ritual for herself, which is really healthy. Her body will let her know when she is tired and needs to sleep.

Re: for those who have babies who stand, sit up, etc
My ds even does this WHILE he's sleeping! I'm finding him sitting up several times a night and now he's even crawling with his eyes closed in the crib too lol Before he falls asleep I just let him do his thing. The night thing is exhausting though!!
