For those who have changed jobs...
Did you have to wait 3 months at your new job to get health benefits?
I can't afford to not have it for that long, and definitely can't afford to pay cobra for 3 months.
I have not left my current job, and would like to see what else is out there, but I can't even think about looking yet b/c i'm concerned about not having benefits.
I feel stuck and I need more money!

No I did not have to wait 3 months. Where I work coverage is effective the 1st of the month after 10 calendar days of service/employment.

Re: For those who have changed jobs...
at this job I had to wait 30 days from my start date
at my lat job- it was 3 months- and I didn't want to pay for cobra- so I held on to all the forms - just in case- and that way if something happened I could send them in- but I never go to the doctor- I ordered my pills before i left- and I got lucky
I couldn't do that now- b/c I cover my DH and he is always at the doctor

you just have to be careful with that b/c what if you get into an accident? you never know what could happen.
don't let health insurance lapse stop you from going out there and looking. every company is different so it may work out. and if you need cobra for a month, it may be worth it for a better job.

Re: For those who have changed jobs...
every company that i ever worked for had the standard 90 day wait period.
but my sister just started with a company that offered benefits from day 1. so maybe you'll be lucky. i know for a fact that Steve and Barry's Corporate office in Pt Washington offers benefits from day 1 also.
you'll never know unless you try.

no. 2 of my recent jobs I got benefits the first of the month after my hire date, and a 3rd job I got benefits from the first day.
Dh just changed jobs & had to wait 30 days from start date.
