We had a house built in SC. We went in a community though with a builder. Are you talking about just building on a piece of land you bought?

Re: For those who have had a home built - a few questions

We had the land and built a house. The way we started was to go look at and speak with different builders and then used word of mouth on who to pick. My BIL just built a house in NC and he first decided on the area he wated, researched the builders and the communities and went with M/I homes. He said they gave you so much for the base price, they were great to deal with and really built a nice quality home. I do know that they were able to back out of the contract by a certain date if there house did not sell and they liked that option becuase they were scared of the what if's.

I have done some research on building a home in NC and heard some ehhh things about Ryan homes and my mom had a house built in Florida by Lennar and was happy with them. It seems you have ot pick the area and see then what developments are in the area you want. We can't seem to decided on a speciifc area we really want to live and would be good for work, LOL.
