For those who killed all the grass/weeds to replace with new lawn

What did you do?

The lawn is now mostly weeds. I am thinking about killing all of it and start from scratch.

Can someone give me the 101 on this?

What did you use to do it? I can't imagine spraying all the lawn with round-up.
Did you have to add top soil?
How long did you wait to seed?

Please share your secret!!!!

TIA

You can try Scotts Turf Builder Plus Halts... It will stop the weeks from coming up and let the grass fill in thick...

I am not in NY (NC) but we had that issue in our backyard. With new construction they just seeded the back, but never got rid of the weeds and some are really thick rootedChat Icon We did not want to kill the little grass there was so we bought stuff that kills just the weeds. You attach it to your hose and just spray it everywhere and within days it starts dying. (Got it at Lowes)

Then we (OK DHChat Icon ) dug out some of the major weeds and plugged and planted new seeds. It's only the 1st time, but we have grass. From what our neighbors tell us it'll take about 3 times for it to really be full.

Not sure if this helps.
