For those who live/work near Hofstra, traffic advisory for tomorrow's Pres. debate
Presidential Debate Traffic Advisory
On Wednesday October 15, 2008, Hofstra University will be hosting the Presidential Debate. The Nassau County Police Department is advising the public of the following traffic conditions and road closures due to this event:
Earl Ovington Blvd. will be closed to all traffic between Hempstead Turnpike and Charles Lindbergh Blvd.
No commercial traffic will be allowed on Hempstead Turnpike between Oak Street and Merrick Ave between the hours of 10:00 AM and 1:00 AM on the day of the debate. Westbound commercial traffic will be diverted at Merrick Ave and Hempstead Turnpike and eastbound commercial traffic will be diverted at Oak Street and Hempstead Turnpike.
All lanes of Hempstead Turnpike will remain open to passenger vehicles. However motorists should expect periodic delays on Hempstead Turnpike and vicinity due to intermittent road closings throughout the day especially in the vicinity of Hofstra University's main entrance and the Nassau Coliseum.
The Nassau County Police Department is advising that citizens avail themselves of alternate routes and should if possible avoid travel in the area of the Nassau Coliseum and Hofstra University on the day of the debate.
Commercial traffic restrictions mentioned above will be effect from approximately 10:00 AM October 15, 2008 to approximately 1:00 AM October 16, 2008.

I am so not looking forward to coming to work tomorrow. We have already been told by our Corporate headquarters that absences tomorrow will be unexcused

Thanks for posting.... My parents live less than 1/2 mile away from Hofstra. My mom works at Roosevelt Field and will definitely have trouble getting home.

It's going to be a PITA, but it did get me the day off from classes (NCC student) so i can't complain too much.

Thanks for the info. My DH works at UPS in Uniondale (right on Oak st.). He's gonna have a major hard time getting to and from work.

I am not going into work tomorrow. My boss is on vacation anyway, so it is no big deal if I go. I do not want to be in the middle of that.

What a PITA!
I am happy for Hofstra and all, but really who will remember where the debate was in a week or so?
