For those who "passed out" or fainted before OR almost did!!!! UPDATE...spent hours in L&D

Just a few minutes ago, I had a feeling of blood rush to my face, burning eyes and feeling I was going to pass out.

I feel a bit better but I have no clue what happened. BP or low sugar? The flushed face is something I am not familiar with.

Of course, I told my co-workers to be on the look-out for me in case it happens again. I still feel a bit funny but ate a muffin in case it's my sugar.

I have my CPR and know that if it does not go away I will have them call 911. I checked with someone here at work and we don't have a BP monitor (we have everything else!!!!).

If that happened to you, what was it?

*************
UPDATE:
Well, I ended up going to the hospital and be in L&D for hours. BP was all over the place. Not considered high but higher for me then it totally dropped then back to normal then dropped again.

I was tested for pre-eclampsia. That was not it. No protein in urine. They did a blood test to confirm but nothing on that side.

They think it could be low blood sugar. It was very low when they took the blood especially after the banana and cranbery muffin. It should have been higher.

So now... I am home, resting. No work for me tomorrow. Called Dr. for follow up as per her phone conversation with midwife at hospital and waiting for her to call me back. Hospital called her and she was faxed all the info of what happened today.

Baby is fine!!!

I had that alot in my first trimester, almost every day. Feeling faint, lightheaded, that feeling behind your eyes and in your throat like you are going down. I still get it sometimes but not nearly as bad. I was told it was hormonal. I was advised to stay hydrated and keep OJ nearby in case you need a rush of sugar fast. Feel better and take it easy!

i did faint when i was pregnant. i was about 16 weeks pregnant. the reason was i was over heated and dehydrated. drink lots and lots of water. Its common to feel faint once and awhile while pregnant. infact when i fainted i called my obgyn immediatly. she didnt even send me to the er or anything. told me take it easy, drink lots of water and relax. i have never fainited again pregnant or not (knock on wood).

Re: For those who "passed out" or fainted before OR almost did!!!!

I had that fainting feeling once a couple of weeks ago (2nd tri).

I've fainted several times before -- mostly when I was in my early 20s and I found out that it was from low BP and being overheated or having low blood sugar can exaccerbate it. My danger times are early in the morning -- if I get up quickly (going from a warm bed to cold house), get into the shower w/o eating, or run out of the house w/o food.

The best thing for me to do when it hits it to SIT, drink something (OJ or milk), put a cool compress on my forehead, and take deep breaths.

Definitely talk to your doctor about it!

Re: For those who "passed out" or fainted before OR almost did!!!!

this happend to me with my first pregnancy I was on my way to work and was on the train a nd I had to get off I sat on the bench and put my head between my legs the best I could and waited till the blackness went away Iwound up turning around and going back home I told my gyn and they told me to go straight the the ER so I could be monitored. They couldn't detect what caused it but they said it could of been low sugar blood pressure not enough fluids but I ate and I always carried some type of juice with me and water so we never found out what it was from

This also happened to me as well..on the train on my way to work. I was standing and I started to feel hot and started getting tunnel vision. I squatted down and everyone was looking at me (but of course didn't offer to help) and I was able to get off the train and put my head between my legs. I was told it is a combination of low blood sugar as well as being pregnant and I should carry juice, or fruit or something with me all the time. Of course I don't...I just make sure I have a seat on the train.

I am 6 weeks pg and I felt that a few times already.

Its really scary.. it feels to me that everything gives in from under me and i am going down. My DH said to lie down if that happens... something about blood not getting to the brain.
