For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
We have those lever type knobs in our apt, and they can be opened very easily by Sasha... so I am thinking that's not the right choice, even though they are more contemporary.
So-- what to pick?
And what kind of metal?

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
We put the lever type on the new bathrooms and just a simple standard round know on the bedroom doors. The lever style are easier for anyone with arthritis or other aging problems becaus they don't require gripping. A good selling point if you might be relocating in the next several years and also good if you have a lot of elderly family members visiting.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
One reason I put lever handles on is *because* of the kids. There's a short period of time when you don't want them to open the doors, but they have baby-proof covers for those. However, when they are potty training, you want them to be able to easily get in and out of their rooms and the bathroom.
Plus, it's just so much easier for adults to use the lever if your hands are wet, full, etc.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
we picked round brushed nickel door handels with a little craftsman detail from emptek our knob
if you ever think of getting a large smart dog - stay away from levers - my dog opens them with no problem
also don't forget to order the correct color hinges for the door handle - the default is still brass - i screwed this up when we were redoing our house and had to buy all new hinges
there is a place in huntington called finishing touches that has tons of options to see
also i was told to stay away from baldwin door knobs - expensive hard to install and there is a lot of other good quailty for less
schlage makes inexpensive good knobs

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
We went with lever (I wanted knobs downstairs and crystal knobs on the bedroom doors but DH wanted lever).
I got to pick the color. It's like a brushed brass color.

I replaced mine with the venician bronze knobs.
I grew up where all houses had levels. It's just training! But in reality, knobs are just more practical with kids.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
cheapest silver knobs and for french doors curled levers in silver.
Crystal handles = but just wouldn't go with my house right now and it would be a PIA to keep clean looking.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
our doors all have lever handles. I actually prefer them. They are brass - but not a shiny brass, the dull finish. Is that bronze?

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
we got round bronze from home depot. I think they are schlage.
I didnt do lever b/c I knew if we had children they would be opening things easier. But like PP said they make childproof locks for the levers. So get what you like.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
I chose Baldwin egg-shape knobs in a satin nickel finish. I thought they were a little more 'modern' looking...just something different.

That's what we have too. Some were original so we replaced others for for them all to match.
ETA: A few are porcelain too. I forgot about those.

Re: For those who replaced doors-- what new knobs did you pick?
Ok, so I spoke to my contractor and we did the pre-hung doors, which have brass hardware. Should I change all the hardware?? I was going to do a rubbed bronze or antiqued nickel knob. Ugh-- he is like, this is why we did pre-hung-- so we didn't have to deal with the hardware. He must think I am nuts... or should I Just pick a brass knob so it doesn't look weird.
