For those who scheduled an elective c-section

Can you do it for "convenience"?

Did you insurance cover it if it was not for a "medical" reason?

Mine is not for convenience.

Not many doctors will do it for that reason. For your insurance to cover it would have to be for a medical reason.

Re: For those who scheduled an elective c-section

It is highly unlikely that a reputable physician would schedule a c-section without a valid medical reason. There is too much risk of malpractice and it is unlikely an insurance company would pay for it.

I agree, but I have heard of physicians who will help to manufacture a reason. Still, that is a huge risk for everyone involved. In my case, my insurance had better pay, as I have gotten 3 doctor's opinions on whether this is really necessary and all 3 agree.

Didn't you have an "issue" a couple of weeks back? Could that be the "excuse" for the c section? If I remember correctly, it was something that pushing won't help.

FM me if you don't want to post about it....

Yes...good memory! I will ask the dr. on Thursday.

On top of the "pushing" issue, I realized that after going to the emergency room last Thursday, it was really creating a problem.

I live 20 minutes East of Winthrop. I work 40 minutes East of Winthrop. The ambulance confirmed they would not drive me to Winthrop. So I had to go to LIJ in Plainview. BUT this is a huge issue if I go into labor while at work.

DH is working in upper Manhattan and luckily his cie paid for a car service to get him back to LI last week.

We have NO family whatsoever and I cannot ask a coworker to drive me 40 minutes away from work during their work time. Plus who wants a "bleeding/soaked" pregnant woman on their car seat, really? Plus, I know they won't just drop me to the ER. They would feel oligated to go with me. I don't think it's fair and it's asking too much.

SO MANY things are going through my head.Chat Icon

For this alone, I would not think that you would qualify for a c-section. You need a medical reason, as far as I am aware.

OMG you are too much.

I say talk to Dr H. If you are having issues (which I know you went to the ER last week) then it is not unreasonable to talk about it.

I know my SIL had a similar issue and not to be scary, but the pushing did her in and she had issues for months after. Tell your dr that (adopt my SIL, you can keep herChat Icon ) and use it for your case.

There are NO issues with the pushing. I just had some issues during the pregnancy so it just has to do with me.

No worries!!!!

Re: For those who scheduled an elective c-section

Sorry you have pushing issues...

I want a scheduled C/S and never thought that the insurance co. might not cover this! OY-

ONE Of my reasons is this:

Each one of my cousins (all girls) who have had children pushed for 20+ hours only to find out after these 20 hours, that they had a tilted cervix and there was no way the baby was coming out! My little Tyler was even stuck in the birth canal Chat Icon I don't know if I fall into that category, but also don't know if I want to try pushing only to find out that I too, have this family "problem" of a tilted cervix.

I'm going to e-mail my Dr. and see what she responds to me.. I'll let ya know.

Re: For those who scheduled an elective c-section

I am going to talk about my dr tomorrow about this too about a c section.

I have 2 fissures plagueing me from DD's birth last May and you cannot PAY me any kind of money to push this baby out again and deal with 50x worse pain then i am in now and set me back a year.

So I shall see tomorrow.

I am def going to use this as a medical issue to an elective C. My baby was breech, not sure if she flipped or not, she may stay breech and make it easy for me.

No. I didn't mean to alarm anyone. I just happen to have gotten 3 opinions. 1. The surgeon who did my uterine fibroid surgery 2. my current doctor 3. doctor that I saw once in between these 2. who had my surgery records. And there are really more because I am not even counting the partners of the surgeon, who saw me in my aftercare.

I agree...at best, they will schedule an induction. My dr. is considering it depending on how I look down there in a few weeks to prevent me from NOT making it to the hospital.

Re: For those who scheduled an elective c-section

I'm having an elective c-section due to back problems which may or may not get worse if I had to go through pushing, if I could push at all. I'll check with my insurance company but I'm pretty sure from my other conversations with them that we're covered. What insurance company do you have, just out of curiosity?
