For Those Who Work Part Time & SAHM
These past few weeks I have been contemplating working part time vs. my full time schedule. My aunt picks up Marissa from school but won't be able to do it much longer. Marissa is 6 and I feel the need to be there with her when she gets home from school. I know the $$ coming in will be less, but some things are priceless. How did you decide on what was best??? I need advice. TIA

I have no advice for you, but I did think of some ideas. I don't know if it will work for you though.
Can you work from home after Marissa comes home from school? or shift your hours to come in earlier but leave earlier?

Well, I can't come in earlier but I can use the office laptop to work from home. Good idea. I don't know how that will fly with my boss.

Re: For Those Who Work Part Time & SAHM
I only work 2 days a week but will be taking up a third day come september just b/c I actually do miss work and the $$ I make is very very good. My DH works 3-11pm so he is with the baby until 2 then drops my son off at my MIL"s and she watches him till 5. Its a great set up for us. Me and DH dont get to see each other all that much, but that was the case even before the baby was born. He has worked this shift for the past 2 yrs. It makes the time we do see each other more special. For me, I need to work just for my own sanity, and being off with the baby 5 days a week is a great feeling too!!

DH works 4 to 12 and he's home with Marissa now that she is out of school. But when she goes back to school, I want to be there with her when she gets home from school.

Same here but my Dh works until 5pm the days that I work and I work 2-10pm so my mom comes to the house and watches her until DH gets home. I feel I can handle motherhood better because I get out of the house and work a couple of days which is why now that she's a bit older I will be adding a day.

I hope it works out for you. I work 1.5 days a week and it's perfect. I keep my license active, get to have adult conversation, all those years of college are still being put to use I really hopes it works out for you.

Re: For Those Who Work Part Time & SAHM
I work three days per week. Being a FT SAHM wasn't an option due to $$$, and I didn't want to spend so much time away from Jesse. It seems to be a nice balance. So far, we really haven't had to sacrifice much and I think it's worth to spend as much time with my DS as I can. Yet I need my sanity so my adult time at work helps with that.
Good luck with your situation. Part time turned out to be the ideal solution for me.

I agree. I work from home, but see clients 1-2 days a week. I hope it works out for you.

Posted by Aliasmom if you guys will be okay money wise, go for it. I agree... there are many moms that wish they could swing being home more... like me, I dread going back to work at the end of Aug. BUT, I'm going to try hard to find another job... either PT, or near home, or SAH.

Re: For Those Who Work Part Time & SAHM
Honestly- now that I work PT- I feel no difference in the $$$ situation....
It makes me wonder where all that extra $$$ went....
I work M-F 7:30- 11:30... its a great sched. because when I leave I still have the WHOLE day ahead of me... On weekend when I have off- DS and I lounge in our PJ's to 11 anyway- so really thats when we usually start our day anyway...
I still feed him all his meals... and spend the whole day with him... I really consider myself a SAHM...
In the summer time I have alot more work to do- so at least once a week I have had to put in a full day...and all I keep saying to my DH is- I dont care where we have to move to continue to allow me to work this sched. or not work at all... but we are there.... Being a FT working mom isnt for me....
I have considered working like 7pm-11pm as well... at a hospital or something since it pays more $$$ than I make at my current job- but DH really dosent really like that idea...plus since we plan to move out of state and my company is pretty much EVERYWHERE- I really wanna stay there- so I could get a transfer....
I say- if its in your heart to be home with your child... than find a way to make it work.... Even if you still have to work some hours.... find away to make it work...
My mom worked while we were young... and til this day she regrets it! (She says shes making up for it now- by being home and watching her grandson )

Re: For Those Who Work Part Time & SAHM
It all depends on your $$ situation. If you can cut it working part time, then I would say go for it. I have worked fulltime with both children and while, yes, I wish I could be home, they have always been fine. If you can't cut it moneywise, don't let other people tell you you can and that your child is better with you at home. You need to do what is best for you and your family.
